So ECNL announcements are leaking out

Anonymous
For the first time since DA folded, it appears that GA might be starting to push back a little. It is no secret that many DOCs in ECNL dont like the administration structure of ECNL but did not believe they had much of a choice because of the ECNL dominance.

While the MLSN partnership is not earth shattering, it does have some bearing. USSF would much rather support MLSN and GA than ECNL

If GA gives ECNL DOCs almost anything (MLSN for boys as an example, more national development oppotunities) some of them will jump. ECNL still has the clear edge but maybe there is a slight shift coming.

My money is that more ECNL clubs move to GA than vice versa. Like/kind/quality who knows but certainly better than last few years.

I know of at least one NWYNT player (actually played for the team) that turned down a pro opportunity because college was important. It happens.

Haven't heard from this guy in a while.

Yea right, players that can play pro would ever choose to play in college.

😆 😂 😆 😂 😆 😂 😆 😂 😆

Clearly a boy dad who knows nothing about the girls side of soccer in the US. The path to pro is so much narrower - there are only 15 teams in NWSL, no USL with a few more divisions of pro level soccer, no teenagers being recruited to european academies. So yes a lot of girls who can go to an Ivy, Georgetown, etc. see a much better future path becoming a doctor, etc. then struggling through to make a pro league where a lot of players only make $80K a year.

There are cases of people chasing a dream when they are young and able. There's always time to figure out the career route.

It's not crazy.

I think the point is the VAST majority of the best prep players go to college vs going straight to the pros. How many straight to pros from high school (or earlier in very rare cases) have even happened, and then, if they do happen, how successful were they? I am not sure I even have to take off my shoes to count them.

For last WC cycle I am not sure more than one or two USWNT skipped college. A few more this cycle probably but still just a small handful.

NWSL going away from the draft process actually may increase those numbers of players that may make a decision to skip college if their dream is to play pro soccer.

Heaven forbid a child put a full ride scholarship ahead of making $30k a year playing women's soccer. 🙄 Keep living vicariously through your child and helping them make horrible decisions.

Girls should only be focued on a career earning money, NOT playing pro. Some of the best to ever play are 30 and broke. Full stop.

Get a free education and become a Dr..... pay your bills and chill.

Wait till you see what the scholarship amount average is for women's soccer. It's not often kids are getting full rides.

There is the new USL Womens Super League, in its first season with 8 more teams. Not a ton I know, but growing.

It is very true that the endgame for men and women in the US is different. I would also say, for my DS, I'd push for college with no soccer over a D1 scholarship or a pro position in most leagues in the US. Of course, to get to that point, he'd probably be so dedicated he wouldn't listen!

Spot on. I do think however that blue looking to jump will have to decide what's best for their program. Lots of clubs with ECNLB & GA.

Hopefully this new landscape pushes ECNL to do right by club entry based on merit and not by what the local clubs dictate. Looking at you SLSG and FC Stars.. Some of the founding ECNL clubs try to limit competition as they are aware that if it wasn’t for the badge, kids would run

While I am not prognosticating they will jump, I know that SLSG has quite a bit of friction with ECNL due to their MLSN affiliation.

How many parents on this board, in particular, would even send their kids to 80% of D1 schools even if they were offered a full ride? 😂

Send daughter to D3 Williams or D1 McNeese State? Hmmmm

SLSG has MLSN yes. League looks weak when your marquee clubs are playing in a competitors league.

What I was referring to is that the big national clubs tend to deny entry to clubs nearby that pose a threat. Some of those clubs are GA with boys ecnl.
