School delayed and no sports or activities for 3 days straight just for cold weather?!?

MCPS made the right call. Feels like temperature is 1° right now.

Setting aside the fact that kids would still be going outside for recess in rational school districts, it isn't going to be appreciably warmer in two hours. A delay has no benefit.

This is ridiculous. Roads and sidewalks are fine, and certainly aren't going to be any different at 9am. It's going to be just as warm tomorrow at 7am as today at 9am. They should go back to a full day tomorrow.

Many sidewalks are sheets of ice. My high schooler already slipped and bumped his head yesterday. He walks to the bus but there is a stretch of sidewalk through a park that he can’t avoid. At least he can see where he is going at 9am.

Again, the sidewalks aren't going to be any different in an hour. And your son should already know he has to be more careful due to the ice. Delaying doesn't change that.

But if you're that concerned about him, why don't you walk with him? Or drive him?

This. My neighbourhood is the same. I’m so glad my high schooler doesn’t have to walk in the dark. I think the complainers are primarily elementary school parents

You walk on the snow, not on the ice.

+1. We've been dealing with an icy walk since the first snow day a couple weeks ago. If it's too dark to see where you're going bring a flashlight, but none of this ice is going away; you just have to be careful.

Posters complaining about a 2 hour delay are the same people who let their kids wear a tshirt in below freezing temperatures and obviously don’t care. They don’t care about frost bites, kids slipping and hurting themselves, bus issues etc.

The sidewalks are not fine. My daughter slipped and fell on her walk home yesterday. She said many spots were slippery and icy. She’s hurt but ok.

Which makes sense, given they're the ones most heavily impacted by this.

DP. She just said it’s lighter outside at 9 but nice of you to blame a kid for slipping and falling. Hope that happens to you too.

Fine doesn't mean your don't have to be careful if you don't want to fall. And you're going to have to be just as careful at 9am as 7am.

You know the ice is there already. You don't need the sun out to show you that. Plus its already light out well before the sun comes up.
