It is. Pregnancy is one of the riskiest times of a woman’s life, statistically. |
Honestly, I think renting out your womb as a surrogate for 9 months to provide a child you have no genetic connection with to another couple, is much less exploitive and problematic than selling one's egg or sperm to someone else and creating a child that actually is genetically yours to someone else for payment.
The later seems more akin to baby selling. |
And fortunately we live in a time where "the riskiest time of a woman's life", still isn't particularly risky. At least for western women. |
That's really not what's happening in developed countries. Surrogates are not impoverished and homeless. |
Yes. Getting paid is different than donating. Obviously. |
Both are exploitative, particularly egg donation. I suspect in twenty or thirty years we will see studies about increased rates of cancer in egg donors. Donor-conceived children are speaking out about the practices as adults because there are enough of them now. In twenty years, surrogate-born children will join them (and the early ones already are). |
It’s a black market because it’s illegal. The question is do you think it should be legal? |
The PP said that women on government welfare cannot be used as surrogates. And with that, I agree, if you want to pay for someone's pre and post-natal care, go for it, but don't make the taxpayers foot the bill for your bespoke kid. |
If someone just wants to do it for a family member, it’s a family affair. When compensation enters the picture, yes, it’s absolutely exploitative. |
Then why aren’t you one, if it’s so easy and lucrative? Put your uterus where your mouth is. |
You all are all over the place. None of what you describe happens in countries that were the subject of this thread or here in the US. So now we are just bargaining about the price. If an impoverished woman made enough it would be ok. Good to know. |
You are exhausting. You don’t get to make that decision for every woman. Worry about your own womb. |
So you agree that a woman should be able to sell one of her kidneys, yes? |
Again, organ donation is a thing. U couldn’t care less is someone made money doing it too. But a child is not an organ. So it is a nonsensical argument. |
Your sister is closer to a thoroughbred horse than to a teacher. |
