The new NSF report finds that Howard University in Washington, D.C., produced the most undergraduates that went on to earn a doctoral degree during the period with a total of 403. Some 393 Spelman College graduates earned a doctoral degree. Florida A&M University, North Carolina A&T State University, Hampton University, Jackson State University, Southern University, and Morehouse College all graduated more than 200 Black students who went on to earn doctorates.

The University of Maryland, College Park and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill were the only predominantly White institutions that graduated more than 200 Black students who went on to earn doctorates. Among private predominantly White institutions, Harvard University produced 117 Black graduates who earned doctorates. Cornell University, Stanford University, and the University of Pennsylvania also graduated more than 100 Black students who later earned doctorates.

Those numbers are even more remarkable for Spelman because total enrollment is only about 2,400 students.

Harvard has 800 black students, morehouse and spelman have 2600 each and produced 593 PHDs, Harvard having 800 students produced, 117, which means, Morehouse and Spelman did better than Harvard by 40%

The study was done over 10 years , Morehouse / Spelman graduate 450 black students students per year, and Harvard graduates 100 black students per year

so, 4500 from Morehouse / Spelman and 1000 from Harvard

(593) Morehouse / Spelman's rate is 13%, with majority coming from Spelman

(117) Harvard's rate is 12%

Nope!!!!! if you combine morehouse and spelman, the rate is 6%

if you separate it Morehouse's rate is 5%, and Spelman's rate is 9%

you also have to take into account that Harvard's black population is 80% African

So, are they not Black?

They likely have very different SES and networks.

Please post facts, not your baseless opinions. And stop trying to start a diaspora argument.

We are now going to pretend that Africans and African Americans do not have different SES and networks on average to appease you, why?

This post is about elite/UC Black people who are 3rd/4th/5th generation college graduates. We are discussing elite Blacks who founded and are multigenerational members of the D9/J&J/The Boule/Links, etc. These people are primarily the descendants of formerly enslaved people. On average, this particular group’s SES is higher than any African immigrant group.

who in their right mind is paying $55,000 a year for a DC private, then pay ivy league prices at an HBCU, that is underfunded, where you have to live with mold, rats, and roaches

Just like most of the Ivy League, Georgetown and UVA!

Morehouse / Spelman send more black students to Harvard professional schools than any Ivy League school

The Ivy black grads are getting jobs in IB. They don't need professional school.

Had no idea that you could go straight from undergrad to business school

IB doesn't require business schools. That's kinda the point

If you have Morehouse college or spelman college on your resume, it holds the same weight as an ivy league school on wallstreet

And? Doesn’t change the Harvard 80% African stat you commented to originally? It’s like you’re trying to obfuscate

No, he's a Harvard grad, while Spelman and Howard have very abnormal results for the bar of students they accept (and it's because they are fill in for diversity)

The average gpa at Spelman is 3.89, and at Harvard, it's 4.0, but maybe they are learning different math

Could it be that a 4.0 at one place isn't a 4.0 at another or even a 3.6. Some colleges are harder than others, it's not just the GPA, it's the rigor.

Harvard classes are harder, GPA is meaningless......... now is it fair that a girl from (Ranked 39th among LAC )Spelman gets hired at Goldman Sachs over a girl from (Ranked 2 among LAC)Amherst, no it's not, but we don't live in a fair world
