Will d3 offers start to go out July 1 this year? How competitive will it be for NESCAC, Centennial, etc? |
Yes, NESCAC can make offers July 1 this year. Other D3s are already actively recruiting. |
So, does that mean that Dave Mitchell is no longer associated with DM? |
Are d1 rosters basically filled for 2025 grads or are there still open spots? |
Inside Lacrosse provides up to date commitment listings. You can view them here - https://www.insidelacrosse.com/recruiting/commitments?class=2025&league=1 If you look at the 2024 page, you can get an idea of the number of commits a school will take in a given year. Then compare it to 2025. There are some differences in numbers from year to year, but it's a way to get an idea. You will also see that some schools have MUCH bigger classes than others. Bottom line, there are still open D1 spots, but not a ton. |
Playing at a top 20 D1 program is getting harder and harder.
Between graduate transfers and now the transfer portal here to stay, college coaches will not be taking nearly as many freshman recruits as they once did. Its less risk to the program if they can lure a kid from the portal for one year vs taking a "gamble" or perceived "projection" on a 18 year old HS senior. I've said this before, D1 college coaches have enough data , experience to know that nearly half the kids who sign with them, will likely have little impact on their program over the next 4 years. Why recruit on average 9 new freshman each season, when you can now bring in 3+ players from the portal , who have proven themselves at the D1 or even D3 level. I know parents don't want to hear this but this is the new reality of D1 lacrosse. |
Interesting. I wonder if this will be the case with Georgetown, they have 13 2024 commits vs 9 for the 2025 class. Unless they are still scouting for talent. |
I don't necessarily disagree with your point that the portal has changed things but one of the factors that played a great deal into the portal was the impact of COVID on rosters. You had guys with an extra year that would have graduated stayed. Many of those guys stayed with the same school, some transferred to other schools (this will still be a thing). Further, this log jam resulted in younger kids that would have played (or played more) in games but for the fact, older guys were still around. Some kids saw the writing on the wall and used the portal. Portal transfers to new schools also cause their own ripple and kids moved when other players joined a new school through the portal. This summer is the last year of that happening with the IVY (doesn't allow graduate students to play and has caused movement and sat out of lax for 2020 and 2021) allowing for a large number of players with extra years of eligibility that can be used. This isn't to say that the portal won't be used but the numbers won't nearly be as dramatic as they were the past 2-3 years with the extra year COVID provided to guys now being gone. |
Good insight , time will tell though.
I predixr college lacrosse rosters will slim down overt the next few years - unless you are a full pay family. |
Appears so. The new head coach will bring in his own staff. |
As he should
Mitchell never even tool DM to the WCAC title game during his tenure |
Landon put on a very good showing this week at NHSLS, only to lose to Lawrenceville in the championship game.
St John’s and Bullis also looked strong too. Bears, Bulldogs and the Cadets will likely be the top 3 in the DMV next spring at the start of the season. |
Is god still purple? |
Gonzaga drops big time next year. |
Agree re where those three are - they did look good this week. That said, any inferences you can draw from NHSLS results on the upcoming season are compromised by the different approaches schools take. It’s a showcase, so some schools don’t play to win, they test drive a few players, and they give field time to some to play in front of college coaches, so more kids see the field than they might during spring season, which makes a lot of sense and is actually a pretty decent thing to do for your players. Malvern went 1-2 in pool play, and a good number of strong programs had equally spotty W/L records. It’s just an assumption of course but I’d wager confidently that those games would have ended differently if they played to win instead of ensuring more players saw the field. |
