Taxpayers pay for public education and other social services, which includes Special Education. It's a huge cost when you includevthe children of all those who are here illegally. |
We can afford to help people. |
I'm a Democrat and I generally believe this. But where does it end? We don't have unlimited resources, and to the extent that we "help people" in this way, it serves as an incentive for more people to come. I live in NYC, where the mayor has announced budget cuts to city services that I pay for and enjoy, like the NYPL, to pay for migrant services. In addition to essential services, like the public schools. To pay for foreign nationals that weren't invited here and are essentially economic migrants. I absolutely believe we can, and morally should, help American citizens. The ones who are here already. There's plenty of work to do on that front. |
Then why do we have homeless Americans? Who do children in America go to bed hungry? Why are people not able to afford healthcare and housing? If we can afford to help people, why so we have debt? |
And, how many of them actually PAY for their medical treatment when they are billed? (see the attached that shows uncompensated medical expenses not to mention Medicaid birth costs) Many do not pay their own rent or their own food..... look at Maine, Chicago, NY, and other cities that are currently footing the bill for them. And, the cost to educate the children of those here illegally is substantially more than that of citizens. They require additional resources for their educational needs - ESOL teachers, translators, and other services. The cost to American taxpayers for those here illegally is substantial and absolutely takes funding away from citizens in our country. Just ask the residents of Chicago. https://www.fairus.org/issue/publications-resources/fiscal-burden-illegal-immigration-united-states-taxpayers-2023 |
ESL classes are funded by taxpayers too and boy, these kids will need a lot of them. |
But children will become tax paying citizens. |
You are wrong. A lot of Ukrainians who crossed the border with Mexico, are now eligible for TPS and eligible for food stamps, Medicaid and some of them receive housing or help with paying rent (based on state fundings). Also those who are not eligible for any benefits, still use hospitals ERs and public schools to receive free services. |
If the above is true, then why Pritzker does not want the influx of immigrants if they don't burden the schools, pay the rent, and pay their taxes? That would be a huge deal for NYC that had large population decrease since Covid. |
This^. Why can't they stop appealing to Abbot to face consequences of policies they support and rise up to handle the challenge themselves? Set up supportive communities with shelter, soup kitchens, healthcare, job support, ESL and other training , driving schools, education for kids, legal help etc. Get as many as you can help, once tgey graduate to independent lives, admit more. |
Also therapy clinics, doubt they had easy lives at home (or won't be trying illegal routes) or immigration and assimilation in new country didn't add more emotional burden. |
But first fix up problems existing poor citizens face here in US. |
come to Sterling Middle school in Virginia and report back the schools are overwhelmed. it negatively impacts existing US children. but then again you Democrats behind gated communities dont care no Virginia politician has EVER gone to Sterling Middle school or similar impacted schools. none |
Yeah, out in the open in sub-zero weather. Great idea maggot!! |
Please do not post anything using the vile, racist term "illegals." Human beings are not illegal. These are immigrants, most of whom have crossed the border legally. Some may have crossed without documentation, but that does not make these human beings "illegal." Have you ever gotten a parking ticket? Overstaying your parking is illegal -- are you an "illegal" because of your illegal action? |
