Nine and thirteen. As the parent of 10 and 12yo kids, this one leaves me speechless:

Not to be confused with the "Whites" now or formerly on the DC Council. The "colorful" Council names -- those named Brown (Michael and Kwame), Orange (Vincent), White (Trayon and even Robert) haven't exactly been star performers on the Council. |
A Republican ran the last time as well. That is an option. You won't get zapped from space if you check the R on a municipal election. However, I retierate that Bowser has historically been pro a robust police force. As was her Republican opponent, Stacia Hall: https://www.businessinsider.com/results-muriel-bowser-stacia-hall-washington-dc-mayoral-election-2022 "With the city experiencing increases in violent crime, crime and public safety emerged as leading issues on voters' minds. Bowser, who in 2020 had a section of 16th Street NW near the White House painted with the words "Black Lives Matter" and renamed a section of the street Black Lives Matter Plaza, pushed to increase the number of police officers, a point she touted during a television debate earlier in June. "I'm going to make the tough calls when it comes to violent crime, including making sure we have the police that we need," she said. Hall, Bowser's challenger, is a senior rental consultant and small business owner from Ward 3. According to her campaign website, Hall is a single mother who experienced homelessness. The primary focus of her campaign was public safety: If she had been elected, she said she would have put more police officers in schools and developed incentives to have officers live in the neighborhoods they police. Independent Rodney Grant and Libertarian Dennis Sobin were also on the ballot in 2022." |
How were these children out roaming around at that time of night? On a school night? Prosecute the parent(s) too!! |
A man viciously attacked daycare workers in front of toddlers and the council rep fell all over himself to speak of getting services for the attacker. Thats the mindset of city leadership now and crime will only get worse. |
This. They don't want to criminalize mental illness (fair enough), but thats the only time these folks get removed from society. The authorities have no way to otherwise force these people into a secured mental facility for treatment and protection -theirs and ours- and WONT legislate it. So result? They are left to roam the street until after many obvious warning signs nice little kiddies and their teachers get attacked. This is the result of a Council that won't do Sh*t. |
None of the candidates you list had a realistic chance of winning. And the Council is a bigger problem than the mayor. Allen ran unopposed. For all who talk about "voting" only Lisa Gore has stepped up to run as an electable candidate. We need more of those, but not too many or you end up with a Nadeau situation. |
They cut MPD's budget by less than 3%. That's practically a rounding error in the MPD budget - not even a statistically significant number. Yet MPD pretends that's catastrophic. Many other agencies routinely see budget cuts far bigger than that. |

DoJ is providing extra resources to the USAO to help with prosecutions.
That means it's time for MPD to start making arrests again. No more excuses. https://wtop.com/dc/2024/01/doj-announces-more-federal-resources-to-fight-crime-in-dc/ |
If they try and a criminal is too strung out or stupid to drive a moped, they’ll be prosecuted for murder. |
Psychiatric beds per 100,000 population:
Wonder why these sorts of crimes only happen in America 🤔 |
Well said - including about her love for the condo devel bros. But one crime she’s shown more pragmatism than most of the council. |
Has this ever been done in any jurisdiction in the last 20 years? |
