I am running them 24/7 the next few days - just to get as much yuck out as possible.

My issue has been that they are asking people to REDUCE/MINIMIZE exposure and eliminate it for at-risk groups. The crazy part is that there is no change in driving patterns and people are probably driving more to go to indoor spaces. If my kids camp gets closed tomorrow since it is 100% outdoors Ill be driving to indoor spaces for him to get some exercise so I can work the rest of the day. No one is giving time off for these events and the world must keep turning so we all have to make the best choice we can. I usually walk my dog at 9pm for 45-60 minutes. I may skip the walk or reduce it or wear a mask but the idea that she doesn't get to exercise or go outside is kind of insane. I also wouldn't choose to take her for a full walk today. There is a middle ground here.

Its 464 in a part of PA. You stay inside 24/7.

Its the people who are like I am going stay inside to protect myself but order multiple deliveries so I don't risk going outside completely minimizing the cumulative effects of having someone drive multiple deliveries to you when you don't actually need them you are just getting them to make staying inside more enjoyable (?). If you are going to be so crazy to not go outside at all, for any reason, you'll survive on whatever is in your fridge or pantry. And if you arent doing that you are just virtue signaling and get off on hysterics.

Where in PA is it 464?

Free something? It was on the air now website when I was checking for updated aqi. Freemason or freetown or something like that?

Nope. County fields all closed.

Swim team practice was canceled this afternoon.

I would recommend you keep air purifiers going. I’m in the Bay Area and can tell you that after a couple of days the smoke starts to enter your home, especially if you have older windows. Hopefully you’ll get some rain or the wind will shift soon but the longer the smoke sits the worse it is.

We need to build a border wall to keep the smoke in Canada.

They didn’t say anything while they were here all afternoon. I ordered door dash for dinner and it came - no one said anything. We went and played tennis in the evening and had no issue. The kids were playing basketball all afternoon and are fine.

You made the lawn people come? And what would they have said to you if they didn’t feel well?

I love how the responses are either like meh no big deal or we are all going to die. Nothing in between, eh?

What do you expect? It’s like posting to the pet forum that pit bulls should be banned. People who respond either want to canonize them or load them on carts and send them to the gas chamber. People who are in the middle of that issue, or this one, are less passionate and less likely to answer. They are busy taking reasonable precautions and not freaking out.

In places like dmv where aqi rarely hits red, if you spend a few days outside, it’s not the end of the world for you. Maybe you can run outside every day, feel no worse for wear, and proclaim to others how perfectly fine you are.

In places where aqi regularly goes above 100-150, it becomes more important to abide by guidelines because each exposure is cumulative. If you ran outside each day when the aqi was 150+ in those places, you certainly would feel terrible. I lived near shenzen for a while and it takes a toll after a while.

Grab an apple, take a few bites and take it on your run and see how dirty it gets. That was our poor man’s test for seeing how many particulates were in the air when we didn’t have access to purple air aqi readings. It’s like watching those radiation badges mottle and turn black - not a good feeling.

Sigh, my teens had been getting over a bad cold and cough when they suddenly got worse. This hadn't been on our radar as we've all been pretty busy. They're healthy but I think the ilness made their lungs just sensitive enough to the pollution. My sympathies to those who have more serious illnesses.

It's really not that bad.

This is the wussification of America. Everyone is always looking for a reason for things to be difficult.

LOL "Be tough! Damage your lungs for no good reason!"

You guys are nuts. Nobody is getting damaged lungs from outdoor recess this week.

You all need to get treatment for your anxiety and hypochondria.

My doctor who has documented my lung damage would disagree with you. To answer the OP, yes, I'm limiting activity because I have lung damage. As to what others are deciding to do - they know their bodies best.

You're lungs were damaged from wildfire smoke you sustained while outdoors walking your dog?!?!

Or your lung were previously damaged from something else and fall into that 'vulnerable population' category?

Two widely different thing. I'm willing to bet that 99% of the kids staying home today, or being pulled from baseball practice, have perfectly healthy lungs that would not sustain any damage from attending school

My lungs were damaged from failed surgery. I think you are really going over the top on your posts (and realize, there are multiple people who are posting). The OP asked "Are you limiting your activity" not why, not "are you crazy for walking your dog"

I walked my dog and had to use my inhaler twice. My kid is at school, I don't know the status of her free time, but yesterday they were kept in doors.

I'm not sure why you are yelling at people who make a different choice than you.

There are some very ableist people on this forum. Hugs from someone who also has damaged lungs and 2 kids who have asthma.

I cannot understand how someone's terrified of going outside for a couple of minutes, unless you are a person in seriously vulnerable health.

Why would you assume they are control freaks before you assume that they could be medically vulnerable. Many people have illnesses or are compromised in ways that are not visible to outsiders.

And for those who are truly hypochondriacs - that is also an illness in itself. It’s not something to make fun of because you’re fortunate enough not to experience it.

It's the judginess of others. I don't care what someone decided to do - wear a mask, stay indoors, etc. Calling people "anti-science" for going for a walk/jog when someone's in perfectly solid health... is completely ridiculous. The warnings for the DC area are about vulnerable populations. And those populations should take caution for themselves. Others are perfectly capable of going outdoors and seeing how their body feels.

Like with Covid, there's a certain segment of the population who desires to control others, because it satisfies *their* personal degree of control within themselves. Remember the yelling at others for not wearing a mask outside? Or for working out in parks with friends? It's the same control freak aholes, that think no one should be exercising outdoors this week.
