Corn syrup

I noticed a lot of the foods that cause me joint pain and swelling are GMO foods. Coincidence? I don’t know.

Corn is a bad one for me.

Same with me.
People are looking for scientific evidence which is not available.
Before arriving to the US, many are told to be extremely careful with food consumption in order to keep normal weight , that the food in the US is different from Europe or Canada. I know of a 24 year old professional ballerina who put on 18 lbs in a month eating the same way she ate in Eastern Europe. It was a disaster. She was put on a 1000 calorie diet until the end of her 1 year contract.
Does GMO affect everyone? Probably not. But it definitely affects many, especially those who are not used to it.

Is food really he only factor here? Did the ballerina sit in a car more in the US than in Europe? Did other aspects of her daily activities change?

While I do believe there is something in the US food supply that is different from that of Europe's food supply because I have experienced similar to what others have echoed here with losing weight when I travel abroad while actually eating more, but I call absolute BS on this ballerina story. You would have to eat a tremendous amount of food, TREMENDOUS, in order to gain 18lbs in a month! come on!!

It isn’t our food supply but the choices of foods people are consuming and their eating habits, plus overall laziness and sedentary lifestyles that most have (no walking, WFH, delivery, etc). The US consumes way too many snacks foods and convenience foods

You are wrong. We have countless “ingredients” the FDA allows into our food supply that the EU deems not fit for human consumption.

If you are eating real foods it shouldn’t matter

The food industry reported an 20% plus increase in sale. Whatever could it be???? Those meats with hormones? Nah. Veggies with tainted soil and pesticides? Nah.

Junk food!! Go Doritos!!! You are what you eat America.

OP here. Thanks for the interesting discussion. I saw this Tweet today and it reminded me of this thread. I guess it’s not just me.

Also if you read that Twitter thread bunch of people are saying the same thing.

Exactly. No question about it. Everyone knows it legal here to consume toxic ingredients in the processed so-called food.

Oh if it’s on twitter it must be true. Sigh

We spend a couple of months a year in Europe and I have to read labels due to food allergies. We eat pretty clean here but still, foods typically have more additives in the US. It’s particularly noticeable in baked goods and snacks. But also things line frozen fries or smoked salmon. Lots of additives here yet just 2 or 3 ingredients in Europe. My son was excited to find fruit loops. They were actually pastel colors over there lol. Also no corn syrup and things aren’t « fortified » (soy milk for example).

Read ‘WTF Should I Eat?’ by Mark Hyman. It tells you exactly what the problem is.

The glut of garbage additives are killing us. Fake food.

OP here. Update: I am not any closer to figuring this out. I did eliminate soy but it didn’t seem to have an impact. Next I am going to try gluten.

I saw this post on Twitter that describes my experience. Lots of people in the thread saying the same thing.

I appreciate the update, OP. I’m definitely interested in knowing more about this.

Added sugar and refined carbs. My DH wanted to lose weight and did two things 1) got 90% of his dv of carbs from whole grains and 2) cut out added sugar. He passively lost 35 pounds in six months.
