Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
Does this pass for a witty remark amongst your lot? |
The Times articles on this topic have all had opinion and gossip mixed in with the facts. The WJLA article states that Reid "agreed to meet with the six coaches at their request", while the Times says that the coaches have been "summoned to a meeting at Gatehouse". Which is accurate? |
They're both accurate and none of the Time articles on this topic "have all had opinion and gossip mixed in with the facts." Reid is the only one who can agree to a meeting of this nature. So yeah, she picked the spot and time, and the coaches asked for it. It is kind of sad that you need this explained to you. |
| Kind of pathetic that she can't meet with anyone without her lawyer there. |
| Where did she say the team meeting was "racist"? |
+1 She's the superintendent, with a newly-renewed contract. What is she afraid of? |
Reid reads to have doubled down on her already double downing to support Hayfield and rest of FCPS be damned. Hats off to whoever realized important to tape the call- that they have a transcript to prove content of the call. From the article: “The controversy took a sharp turn early Tuesday when Reid allegedly labeled a meeting between South County High School parents and their popular coach, Gerry Pannoni, as racist. However, a transcript of the meeting’s audio, posted Tuesday morning by a local YouTuber who previously disclosed text exchanges involving Hayfield Coach Darryl Overton and a student-athlete, presents a different story, with no signs of racial animus. For some observers, Reid’s decision to summon these coaches after leveling a charge of racism against them raises serious concerns about retaliation and the suppression of dissent.” |
Seems to me they ended up in this mess because Reid was afraid of being called a racist, so she didn't do her job with Hayfield and forced the hand of VHSL and other coaches. Not surprised that now that her incompetence is coming to the fore her immediate reaction is then to call others racist. She thinks that's her magic power as a progressive White woman. |
| I guess my point is - and I'm no Reid defender here - but when did “The controversy took a sharp turn early Tuesday when Reid allegedly labeled a meeting between South County High School parents and their popular coach, Gerry Pannoni, as racist." happen? Article doesn't provide any basis for that(?). How/when did she label it as that? |
So the "sources" are worried that the meeting "is an attempt to stifle dissent and intimidate those critical of her decisions." but also the coaches are the ones who requested the meeting? Anyone with basic reading comprehension ability can tell that the Fairfax Times article is applying extremely tendentious framing to the boring fact that the coaches asked for a meeting and a meeting was therefore arranged. |
Can someone give the TL;DR version of all of this? I'm confused. Why was the meeting between the coach and the parents labeled as racist? |
| Link for the YouTuber being referenced that has the transcript? |
| Where is the source that called Reid saying the situation was “racist”? |
Did she say it in writing or something she told people verbally? |
|
It’s a little hard to understand, but after conferring with my family, I interpret the article to mean that Reid was following up on FCPS reports (from her staff or office) that the rival coaches’ actions are racist. And that she sought to quiet the coaches from speaking out or going against the FCPS point of view on the matter re Hayfield.
