Are scholarship kids treated different at top privates?

No -- people have asked that many times before. With schools with uniforms, no one even knows who the scholarhship students are. It's not a big deal. The elite schools are so hard -- most kids are just worried about trying to make it...they don't care if someone is or isn't a scholarship kid.

Sit at separate tables at lunch.

I remember a post by a former holton girl who lived in SE DC and she said the parents dinner time conversations would extend to the kids and everyone knew she was the scholarship kid.

Does anyone remember - it wasn't that long ago - about whether it was OK for scholarship kids to complain about the school lunches? Some strident posters said "no," it wasn't OK to complain.

Probably it depends on what the kids in the particular class are like. Some classes have more athletes, some have more braniacs, some have more bullies, and some have more snobs.

Administration and teachers seem to work harder to make sure both ends of the (economic) spectrum receive extra support and consideration. It may not seem fair but it is what it is.

How on earth would she know what parents discussed at home dinner tables?

Do us a favor though. Please don't let your kid make comments like "I wouldn't attend this place if we had to pay full price," and then go out and buy the kid a new iPhone the day it's released.

PP re Holton. Guess what? A lot of Holton students get scholarships so the dinner conversations would be really long if every one were discussed. And rather than disparage scholarship students, the school parents band together to raise scholarship money at the annual auction. And they do so happily. Holton is an amazing school. It's great to share it with motivated students. Including scholarship students ... Who are not singled out or identified.

As to other pp about the I phone? Lighten up.

By whom? School? Parents? Kids?

The parents are more interested in a child's FA status than the kids. Some of the kids share that they receive FA at DD's school. As for teachers and admin, they will make assumptions about your FA status (if they guess that you are receiving substantial aid) and may slip and allude to it when no one else is around in the name of being helpful. Wealthier parents are tended to with added effort and interest. Also, as a recipient of substantial FA good chance that your kid will not be placed with the "best" teachers. And, your child's intellectual ability may be chronically questioned due to your lower socio-economic status.

I agree with 6:45 completely and that was our experience at a school. They assumed we were on aid. I could tell that later on they realized that we were not and they often stated things about how they realize that we have a choice at schooling and that how we are paying tuition and should feel confident in the quality of education that we were receiving. They starting bringing up the fact that we were paying tuition either we stated our desire to leave the school. They eventually started concentrating on what they school could do for us vs. how my kid needed help with this or that or how my kid was not keeping up with his appears.

Sad that you are so arrogant that you feel free to dismiss someone else's experience.
