The video of the person who was at her doorstep looked pretty ominous - - the person looked very very dangerous and I have a sinking feeling that Nancy was likely killed in her home -> prior to being taken.

I think the majority of people agree w/me on this……I think that people are probably cautious saying it out loud because of the sensitivity being that it is a celebrity’s mother.

+1

I suspect the person might have crossed the border…where kidnapping is sorta common among criminals, and bitcoin makes this a relatively easy thing.

But most crime stems from some sort of relationship. In this case, I wonder if a caregiver, house cleaner, repairman, delivery person, etc. identified an opportunity and took it.

Or, sometimes crazy people just do crazy things. I think a crazy person wouldn’t have the foresight to remove a body…only someone with a plan to seek ransom takes a person dead or alive.

They might just be a killer for the sake of doing it. Psychopath type individual.

Right.

But killers don’t usually take bodies with them…or go the ransom route.

Maybe the ransom note(s) are fake, sent by opportunists, and this was a burglary attempt gone wrong and she was accidentally killed and body disposed.

I kind of agree but I think forensics “analysts” have said that the blood droplets fell from an upright position like from her arm if walking

The way he was like making sure his gun was at the ready, he was not ready to ask an old woman sleeping alone to walk out of her house, you don’t need a Glock for that!! I am starting to suspect this was a random hit then saw the house full of photos of a celebrity and decided to take her for plan b.

House full of photos of celebrity? Before this week I would not have recognized Savanah Guthrie if I passed her on the street let alone if I was robbing someone’s house and there was a picture of her. Speaking of which, anyone robbing a home is generally looking to get in and out as quickly as possible… they’re not meandering over pics on the mantle.

So he turned on the lights, looked at photos, said "Wait a minute.... is that Savannah G?" I personally wouldn't know her if I passed her in the street but this criminal randomly went in her mother's house and pieced that together in the wee hours of the morning? What will you sleuths come up with next?

I also think he was a random but didn’t realize who she was at any point until it was in the news. Savannah Guthrie is a household name for educated folks, but I highly doubt for common criminals..

Feels like this is the plot of an episode of the morning show…

I don't think SG's main demographic is educated folks. But it is primarily female and older, and most criminals don't skew female or older.

I thought this too. The timing right before the Olympics is suspect.

NBC sent Mary Carillo to take over Savannah's leading role in coverage: https://www.nbc.com/nbc-insider/everything-to-know-about-mary-carillo-savannah-guthrie-olympics-coverage-replacement

That's the only person who benefitted from this entire ordeal.

Craig pulled HIMSELF from the Olympics in solidarity with SG. I was surprised that the network allowed it. The backup Mary is not good at this.

The competition angle makes no sense.

Mary Carillo is a star in her own right in the world of sportscasting who has covered many Olympics already (more than Savannah), and a is a former tennis pro who hosted Wimbledon and US Open broadcasts and was known as the best host in tennis.

She has zero motive to do this and is also at a point in her career where she is clearly not pushing or super ambitious anymore because she is in her 60s and stepped back from reporting. NBC had to ask her to come out of retirement to do this.

Older people have thin skin and bleed easily. This happened to my parents in their 80s; always arms and legs. A bump could cause bleeding. To me it looks like bleeding which could have happened from grabbing her arm or bumping her leg on something. There isn't a lot of blood and the cut could have been small.

Correct. It's disrespectful to say Mary Carillo is some random person who moved up or benefitted because of this. She has way more experience doing this than Savannah and literally has covered 8 olympics, 6 for NBC, covering things like opening/closing and hosting the post Olympics show, and won a bunch of awards. She left Olympics hosting on her own terms because she's older, and the network likely begged her to step in to help them on short notice because she has so much experience doing this.

Same. Never heard of her before this story.

Savanna Guthrie is a household name for people who watch morning shows on TV.

That does not correspond to educated folks. More to older people who still watch network TV.

Yes it's older women who know who SG is. Younger people and working people do not watch network morning shows.
