Not true for several decades now. Irrelevant in any case. |
California, Texas, and Florida are the three most populous states. All have Sept cutoff dates. NY is in its own little bubble. |
?? I don't understand. I have two August kids that I held back. There are several others in their classes even. I know of June and July boys held back as well. I personally do not think the cut off should be 9/30. Seems like 9/1 would be better. |
Another NY based poster with no clue. Your Dec cutoff is out of sync with the vast majority of states. Stay in your bubble and ignore the redshirting threads because 99% of the posters here are from states with standard Sept cutoffs and are commenting in that context. This conversation is way over your head and your are coming across as a dolt. |

In Florida the cutoff is September 1st. Kids have to be 5 by September 1 to go to K.
I've never met a September boy who was sent on time and that every teacher he met didn't wish he'd been held back. |
|
My October birthday kid went on time and is the oldest in his class. He was almost 6 by the time he started K. We had to pay for an entire extra year of daycare.

The poster you are responding to is a NY idiot who doesn't understand their state's cutoff date is later than most. |
Weird because i know a bunch. |
Spring and summer kids are regularly held back as either privates demand it as its easier for them OR the parents want an advantage. If your child misses the cut off, they are not held back. |
10/15 is the reasonable cut off. I have a September kid and we sent ours and it worked out fine. Academically they always did well so holding back would have done them a disservice. |
We held our September kid back. It was terrible academically and they had to skip a grade. I don't care what teachers think. They often do whats best for them, not the kids in Elementary. I am so tired of the boy hate. If a boy isn't prepared you need to look at the parents and preschool, who did not prepare them. The play based preschools are a waste of time. |
You just want the cut off moved up so you can justify holding back your kids. They should be grouped by age and sent on time. |
Since they aren’t grouped by age the one size fits all doesn’t work. |
DP: I’d like the cutoff moved so it aligns with what’s developmentally appropriate for 4 year olds. You will find no peer reviewed study that encourages four year olds to get 35 minutes of outdoor play in the school day. |
Redshirting a spring kid would be greedy, as they’re already slated to be on the older half. |
