What is Wrong With This Falls Church House?

So they shouldn't have a hard time selling this house at all.

Nobody is going to buy this house with the high school in mind. Whoever buys it will either not have kids or have little kids. It's a starter home.

That ship has sailed. Timber Lane convinced the School Board to keep the area north of Route 29 at McLean rather than move it to Falls Church, and a different area in Tysons with more kids got moved to Langley instead. Timber Lane is safe at McLean for years to come, absent some major growth within the McLean district. There will be some growth near the West Falls Church metro, and in the remaining part of Tysons zoned to McLean, but the MHS areas with the most growth potential were in north Tysons and got moved to Langley.

People buy two-bedroom condos to send their kids to McLean (and now they'll be doing so to send their kids to Langley, too, as a lot of condos in Tysons have been reassigned to Langley).

The set-up with this house with two bedrooms on each floor will also be less of an issue with older kids than younger kids.

It has sailed for this review. But they will review the boundaries again in five years. That’s what I was talking about.

The only reason they looked at McLean's boundaries last time was because it was over 105% capacity in 2024-25. In response, they are moving over 200 kids in Tysons (Spring Hill area) to Langley, which puts McLean close to 100%. So they probably won't have any need to look at McLean's boundaries again in five years.

Lol. No such thing as a "starter home" anymore, now that houses like this cost a million dollars.

Exactly. No one is getting their dream home and everyone around there works it out. As PP said, this is one of the only homes in the McLean school district under a million and I’d rather live in this home than a nicer home in Falls Church HS or the Justice HS district. There are still couples around that are “losers” like us and make :gasp: $250,000-$300,000 a year. A house like this at the top of the price range for that HHI.

It's a narrow street too, which mean street parking on both sides would be difficult.

And you'd be an idiot. There are plenty of places in suburbia where parking is a non-issue, and this neighborhood is one of them.

I’d also be an idiot then because after the snow we just had in not dealing with neighbors and parking

DP. Give it a rest. The house quickly went under contract.

+1

Under contract within 24 hours of the open house. I'm guessing around 1M. We'll see.

No one the buyers are moving there with a high school kid.

Your post is unintelligible. The house went under contract very quickly, despite all the supposed negatives some posters were eagerly trotting out (most of which were unrelated to the high school assignment).

Right, love when threads like these are posted and everyone is quick to point out every negative with the house. Makes me think all these people commenting have perfect homes - perfect layout, location, school district, etc. Bottom line is even at this price range and with a “poverty” $250-300K HHI (which is mine and my wife’s range), you are not going to get everything you want in a house.

…that being said, my remarks haha - no basement is interesting, could be a good thing but given just the one family/living room with no real space for a TV (above the fireplace is no bueno) is unfortunate. Would think from the outside that upper floor would be at least 3 BR but I guess the walk-in closets and laundry room eat into the space. Walk to the metro advertised as 20 min but Google says 33 min.

The title of this thread was "what is wrong with this falls church house," and then people get angry when the posts are about what is wrong with the house? We were answering the question that was asked. The real estate cheerleaders who can't tolerate any criticism of any house are exhausting.
