Not true if you have to go over the 395 bridge.

See previous post. 395 bridge is rarely the best option.

Usually the Key, I-66 / TR, and Memorial bridges all will be better than 395 bridge. Even from S.Arlington, one could take a different bridge than 395.

I have no experience myself timing it from S Arlington during rush hour.

Yeah I've been scratching my head at people's claims you can get to downtown in 30 from most of Arlington. Never been true for me during rush hour.

Take the metro dog.

No metro near me dog. I can take the bus to the metro but that definitely takes longer than 30. I’ve lived all over Arlington never had a 30 minute commute

I see this is in the VA forum but I think close in MD could fit the bill if that's in play

It depends where your destination is too

My Arlington to DC commute over the 395 bridge was reliably under 30 minutes. There are many people doing the Arlington to DC commute for work (or private school) in under 30.

I should clarify. This was not true for me when I commuted over the 395 bridge if I left my home after 8am. Before 8am the commute was faster. I did not carpool. Maybe the carpool lane is faster, but then I'd loose time picking up/dropping off someone.

South Arlington is pretty affordable, and like others said, while the Niche scores aren't high, parents who are involved like it. And I don't even mean like crazy involved, a normal level of keeping up with your kid. Most of the South Arlington schools use the Title I money to keep the middle class parents happy. Plus, you get to meet people you never would in private.

When I drop my kids off at Wakefield at 8:10, it typically takes me less than 30 min to be at my office in DC using the express lane. And we are generally happy with Wakefield.

Driving is almost always faster unless you live and work right one top of the metro stops. It takes time to walk/bus/drive to metro and then walk from the station to work.

Not by much if at all. because of course you have to drive through downtown traffic and park whereas I can just stroll (usually more quickly) to my office. And walking is healthier and you can work on the metro and metro is cheaper. Even with a 15-20 min longer commute, it is far superior to driving.

I work at State, 23rd and C, behind the Lincoln Memorial. I live in Del Ray - 3 blocks from St Elmos- and I get to work in 17 minutes most mornings.

Ok but OP says K st which is a totally different commute. Plus you are stuck in your car and have to pay for parking.

"Stuck in your car"? What does that even mean? And parking is onsite and free.

There is not a person on this planet that would choose a 40 minute commute via walking, bus, and rail over of 17 minutes in a private car.

Of course there are. There are many people who chose to minimize car use or who are car free. And your scenario (office with free parking on the very edge of the city) isn’t the norm.

WTF are you talking about? It's literally in the city, right next to the mall. It's not on the edge of anything
