Thanks! If people receive an invite, could you please share where your DC is coming from (Catholic K-8, other private, public) and your DC’s HSPT range (95+, 90-95)? It’s interesting to see the profiles of those chosen. In the past, the Scholars essay seemed to play a big role in getting chosen as a Scholar.

I'd be interested in hearing anyone's experience with this event if it's been held in the past. Is the purpose to more or less recruit those students? It would seem awkward to invite a student to learn more about the program and then not invite them to the program come admission time.

My DC went to the seminar last year and it seemed as if everyone there would be invited to join the program. I had heard that being invited was not a sure bet that a kid was accepted into the program, but the tone seemed more congratulatory and informative than weeding out applicants. There was a welcome speech from school leadership, a presentation by the Scholars Department head, and some parent and student panels. Nothing fancy but your family should attend if interested.

BTW, DC was offered academic scholarships at all schools they applied to and ended up choosing SJC for Scholars, as well as their band and Cadets programs. So far so good!

We got the email today. Catholic K-8, 99th percentile on HSPT.

PP here. For those who went last year, were there any interviews or small group meetings? SJC/DeLaSalle is DD’s first choice, so we really want to be prepared.

Nope. No interviews or small group activities last year. All presentations and panels. I feel like at this point they are trying to impress you rather than you needing to impress them.

HSPT above everything else. It matters at every Catholic HS (except Prep, which uses SSAT), more so SJC.

HSPT is the #1 factor, but SJC also wants Scholars who are well-rounded and who can balance getting As along with extracurriculars and service activities. Getting a 98 alone does not automatically get a kid into Scholars.

We got the email as well. 96th percentile coming from public, but practicing Catholic.
