| Another day another great report, as Mr Ratner forgot to mention, is that Sept created 119k jobs vs expectations at 51k. The job losses are much less than expected |
You might want to reread the very FIRST line of Ratner's post.\ Reading is Fundamental. |
Mr Ratner did mention that. Are you out of work? Job market is abysmal, locally and everywhere in the country. |
| August was revised to -4,000?!?!? |
And yet the elites in power claim we need to import millions more cheap guest workers Does anyone still believe the lies ? |

Unemployment rate would be delayed, would 't it, for folks who get laid off with severance? My DH has been unemployed since mid August but we received 14 weeks severance which runs out this month. So he has not filed for unemployment yet. Would I be correct to guess that the October layoff bonanza won't hit the unemployment rate till a couple months afterwards? |
People who have filed for unemployment benefits is a different metric that’s also tracked. This survey is just whether you’re employed or unemployed - someone who had lost a job but was still receiving severance would count as unemployed. Sorry about your DH. |

Amazing to take an economy that was the envy of the world, to one where unemployment is up, layoffs are rampant and GDP is shrinking.

+1 Everyone was freaking out about how bad the August report was - go back to the pages in the low 120s in this thread - and now it’s even worse! |
I do not think you are right about that. It does not make sense, for how can that be gathered and calculated. If PPP's DH does not apply for unemployment benefits, there is no way for the government to know if he is unemployed or not to include in the data. Someone receiving a severance pay can be employed at a different job, so why would the government put them in a survey as unemployed? Anecdotally, I personally received a severance check for twelve weeks while I worked in a new job for ten of those weeks. I was never included in any government data as unemployed. |
