Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
| They really should just move all of Carson to Western and leave Oak Hill where it is. I'm sure there are plenty of other elementary schools that are close to high schools but not zoned there. |
I wasn't taking a side or position either way. Just annoyed that all these posters think what they want matters. What matters is what makes logical sense for the county now and in the future. Use facts, not arguing over how many people at each school want this or that. If what people wanted mattered then Fox Mill wouldn't have been moved to SLHS back in 2008 either. |
I expect my elected official to meet with the people she represents and hear what they have to say before deciding what her opinion is. Meren has cancelled the meeting with the Fox Mill PTA while meeting with her other constituents. She has not responded to the people who have sent her letters saying they disagree with her. Talking to her constituents is her job. |

She’s neither listening to families nor smart. She confused Fox Mill Woods with Fox Mill Elementary School. She doesn’t want to lose FMES to Western—they have low FARMS and high test scores. |
Thats not how politics works though. People lobby and advocate for whats best for them. |
+1 why would you be annoyed by people expressing their opinion unless it is counter to what you want? Fox Mill has the right to advocate to move to Western even if it runs counter to those at Crossfield who want to move. |
It would be great if there were an intelligent School Board making sensible, informed decisions or an intelligent Superintendent making sensible, informed recommendations. We have neither, which is an invitation for a free-for-all where those who yell the longest and loudest have a reasonable expectation they’ll get their way. There is a complete leadership void. |
The issue isn’t people expressing their opinions, but instead incredibly weak leadership in FCPS that appears to change its positions depending simply on which group last managed to get their ear. |
Yes but Michelle Reid just listens to the loudest person in the room - she has separate meetings with parents who are loud in meetings and tries to strike deals with them. I know this first hand. How do you think Western High Scenario E came about? It wasn't her team's idea, it was the RIO group's idea. |
I agree that financially and logistically (given the growth in Oakton), moving Crossfield makes the most sense, even if the Crossfield AAP parents don't want it. |
Why would the RIO group need scenario E if they have B? |
Because Scenario E addresses the Floris issue that a lot of people were complaining about. |
I agree that boundary decisions should make logical sense for the county. In 2008, the choice between South Lakes and Oakton for Fox Mill made logical sense, though other current assignments still don’t. Now in 2025, the choice is between Western and South Lakes, and Western makes more logical sense for both the county and the families. Many FMES families have been trying to make that point by contacting Meren. The issue isn’t “what we want should matter.” The issue is that Meren has avoided a real platform with FMES families, ignored pro-Western emails, and dismissed those perspectives while sneaking her own agenda of “protecting the South Lakes community” into the middle of her newsletter and calling it “community input.” |
| If they were really doing the right thing they’d move Fox Mill to Western and the rest of Crossfield and the Navy island to South Lakes. |
