My apologies. You seem to have read my sentence backward. I said they were NOT at 03 practices. In other words, Spirit is adding 02s and 03s. These pick ups will overhaul the U17 team, just as the U15 team is also being overhauled. So I'm saying that those girls that tried out that are coming over were not in the view of this 04 parent who thinks that 04s are going to change and that this is the start. Some girls didn't come to the ID sessions. They joined practices. Some girls came to the ID sessions. But all 03s and 02s Spirit looked at were in the older age group, which is why this 04 parent (I believe it is an 04 parent to be that defensive about the 04 age group) keeps thinking 04s will change and the 03s and 02s won't. But I finish with: true change and the paradigm shift starts 05 or 06 downward. Next year will show. It is these teams that will be competitive against the truly strong DA teams, not the 04s and older. |
Richmond is a unique situation. For one, they really have no competition. Two, they run their club like a DA. At some point, they will go GDA because they will tire of playing second tier games. |
As others have pointed out, Richmond Utd will not be leaving ECNL. Indeed, Richmond Utd is remarkably intertwined with ECNL. Their offices are across from each other in the same building. Aaron Bruner, RU's director of ECNL operations, is married to ECNL's member services manager. The relationship between the club and the league is too strong. As an aside, Aaron Bruner is also a national team scout, which played a very big role in those two young RU players getting a national team invite. Not saying they're not good but there are other top players in that age group in Virginia who don't have a coach with the same pull as Aaron. |
They won't...till there is another club in Richmond granted the GDA membership... |

Not sure about the defender, but I've seen the midfielder 04 from RU. Maybe she is national team quality; maybe she isn't. I've seen in the DA several 04s that could roast her. However, to her credit, she is better than most any of the VA 04s, DA or ECNL. Apparently, Brunner takes special care of her training to ensure she is given every conceivable opportunity to develop.
Speaking of which, is he still a scout? I heard his contract terminated last year. I do know he used to run the NTCs, but he didn't run any of them this year. |
He is not. D. Drake is scout for our region. Not sure that was an "upgrade"..... |
He is no longer a scout. |

^^these teams have always been about politics. Always.
No surprise. |
Ok Mom of the talented 07. . . . Pathetic. |
On that I concur 100%. That's a large part of what's wrong with our national teams today. It's not the most talented of our players; it is only the most well connected. |
I'm that poster. I am not her mother. Why is that every time someone compliments a player, people think it must be the player's parents. She is talented. I've seen her school 04s. Is she necessarily the next great soccer player? Who knows? She's 10. A lot of things can change, most specifically puberty. All players change after puberty, and some stars peak at 15. Others come into their own. We can all reflect on the example of Freddy Adu. Not because of puberty mind you, but because of what happens when we think we can see a kid at 14 and know who they will become. |
She certainly isn't the only one. Todd Bramble is too. |
Would be a shame if the BethesdaSouth 07 girl quit. Her mom would have nothing to tweet about then. |
You don't still think I'm her mother, do you? Hahaha! That's absolutely hilarious!!!! Hahahahahaha!
Whatever dude, whatever blows your hair back!! |
Oh, never mind. You said tweet. . Yeah, I know. That PR campaign is a bit overblown. But I can't hold it against the girl. One day, she'll have to make that decision for herself how she feels about it all.
