I agree, the probelm is theres a very loud poster here that tries to twist reality into making GY seem reasonable. Most people know it's nonsense. Unfortunately the newbies dont always understand why GY is garbage.

If she is born in August, she will be lumped into the || 1 August--31 July || group. She would be the oldest kid in the new grouping. Next year, she will be in 11th Grade on a predominantly 10th Grade team. (If your grade year cut off is 1 October to 30 September).

Clubs won't allow playing down like this.

It is not Playing down. The new rules have nothing to do with what the player's actual Grade or Graduation Year is. It is just a new 12-month grouping that moved from Jan-December to August-July. We have mixed grades now and we will have mixed grades in the new grouping as well.

In the example above, the player is born in August. She will be a Junior next year. But, she will play in a new grouping that is August to July. Players born in August and September, will be the oldest kids (Juniors), and be a grade level above the October to July Kids (who would be Sophomores).

You're not wrong to be confused, that is why we have over 1200 pages on this topic.

As others have said its going to be fun reading your threads this spring when you find out that clubs won't let Aug birthdays play down.

The only reason they wouldn’t allow that is if showcases are grad year it doesn’t make sense to have a 12 month cut off and only for Aug kids to be grade aligned when there’s going to be plenty of Sept-Dec players who are also not going to be grade aligned with the majority of the team.

Kids will not be mandated to play up if showcases and league play are 8/1-7/31 that just does not make sense.

If a kid is able to compete at the level and wants to stay with their classmates I’m sure that will happen also.

But clubs with lots of competition telling a player and parent sorry you have to play up but other clubs GA or ECNL says we’d love to have your talented player and take your money.

I just don’t see clubs doing that unless the player and parents are wanting to play up.

If these players were any good they'd be playing on the A team with their grade. What makes you think the A team a grade below them would want an Aug birthday on their team?

Just play on your kids grade B team. Get better and work your way up to the coreect grade A team.
There are no grades in club soccer so your rambling makes no sense.

This idiot doesn’t even realize they are pushing for grad year… at the same time hates grad year…

Obviously you haven't figured it out yet.

Im ok with players playing with their grade. What Im not ok with is players playing down for wins.

Traditionally GY means everyone in a certain grade can play in that grade grouping with no restrictions. This doesnt work because you end up with holdbacks and 16 year old freshman. As long as the stupid holdbacks arent included Im ok with what you might call "GY with rules" or SY with a rule saying aug birthdays must play with their grade.

The thing you dont get is that most Aug and Sep kids as school cutoff is 9.30 where we live would prefer to stay with their current team. They aren't running to the club asking to play 'down' as you keep implying. They will be told by the club that they are now in a different age group based on the new rules and that age group happens to include mostly kids in a grade below. That will be the only option in the app that they used to register for tryouts. Conversations will have to be had with coaches for them to play 'up' if they are good enough with their with their former team. It will be up to clubs what they do and don't allow for playing up. You have it backwards.

What you dont understand is that what you're describing is not in the clubs best interest. It makes more sense and in the long run $$$ for clubs to keep players grouped in the correct grade. This is because players playing down a grade are not recruitable. If your club wants to have college commitments in the future they need to break out players by grade asap.

Right...Grade in school doesnt count. Except when you use it as a way to justify Switching from BY to SY to reduce the number of trapped players. Such a hypocrite.
Moving to BY was not a popular move, clubs were not consulted and BY caused problems. Now moving back to SY which was better. You arguing for GY seems to unique. People seem very against GY.

Im not argueing for GY.

All I want is SY 8/1-7/31 and Aug birthdays cant play down. This addresses all the issues and keeps the holdbacks out.
That is merely an argument for I want BY but I want my September kid to be the oldest. Powers that be aren't going to make specific rules to appease selfish parents.

Id hope clubs encourage kids to play inside the 12 month band with adjustments for playing in the correct GY even if that means some kids are forced up into 2nd or third teams.

No one needs extra clown sauce in club soccer. we all get plenty.

Most clubs don't like players playing up. Causes what about me syndrome with other parents.

I agree mostly with previous post. But, movement will depend so much on the number of q4s in the "older" bracket merging "down". So with the loudoun example of 8 Q4s on the 2014 top 3 teams- how many will go into 2015s? If you are a top q4 on the 2015, and all 8 enter, where does that leave you? Are you better than half? Are 6 better than you? The number of q4 2014s (the 8) might want to know how many q4 2013s are entering? Do any play the same position?.... my guess is clubs will default to SY and entertain a few studs case by case.

yeah your right... That syndrom is severe and common at every club I have experiance with.

It’s a hot topic but does make a lot of sense. Other sports have showed a ton of success using the holdback.

Remember, they’re not actually competing against their cohorts here, they’re competing against international academy burnouts

Top clubs wont let Aug players play down a grade. It screws over the player and makes them look pathetic. Also they have enough of the correct grade players fighting for roster spots.

Will crappy clubs desperate for players let some crazy parent play their Aug birthday kid down. Probabaly, but it won't matter over time these players will need to play with the correct grade or the club will replace them with a correct grade player whenever they become avaliable.

Instead of going thr GY path which does not provide the best results. Colleges should partner with P2P clubs creating 2nd, 3rd teams that they can pull up from any time. Now that colleges are paying players this type of configuration is 100% possible.
