Gripens would have been great for Ukraine. The problem is there aren’t enough of them. And creating a supply chain to keep them flying in a war setting would have been impossible. There are more than 4500 F-16s around the world. Much easier to find the aircraft and keep them flying. Hopefully they’ll be in service by the end of the year Regarding objections to cluster munitions, what exactly would you have Ukrainians do? They are clearing each Russian trench and getting wrecked. It’s brutal fighting. It’s exactly what cluster munitions were designed for. They won’t be used on Russian villages. Just Russian invaders. See no problem here |
! |
I don’t disagree with sending cluster munitions Who’s fault is it that none of the euro airframes have the supply chain to keep them flying? Maybe you should be investing 5-10% in your defense industrial base instead of health care and public transportation |
Very noble of you “-European”. Europe is the god of war - for Thousands of years. Totally enjoying our view from the cheap seats in North America as you repeat your destiny of war. America post world war 2 became the most efficient killing machine ever on earth; pre 1940 we just killed locals on our continent. Happy for us to phase back to behind the scenes diplomacy and watch Ukrainians kills Russians at 2 or 3 to 1. Really do not care if it is France fighting russians- will give them weapons too - just as long as American blood is not back on European soil it is a a good deal for us. Been there; done that - and here we are with another European war. |
| Meanwhile antimony is a key component used in making ammunitions and China controls the majority of this mineral. |
|
I support cluster munitions for Ukraine.
The concern is the bomblets that don’t explode, possibly hurting civilians later. But Ukraine would be using these on their own territory (unlike Russia who is using them on foreign soil). I believe this distinction is key as they are not being deployed by a foreign aggressor but in defense in their own territory. |
|
So what you’re saying is that if Ukrainians are ok with hurting their own civilians, then who are you to interfere?
Ok. |
Um - the ONLY country on earth where Ukraine plans to use cluster munitions is: within its own borders. And Russia is already indiscriminately using their rotten 40% dud-rate cluster munitions in its unprovoked war against a peaceful neighbor. Shouldn’t Ukraine be give the means to free itself from Russian tyranny? And don’t give me this “European” crap. My family lives in Europe; I want a peaceful future for my family there, which is why I am with Biden in supporting this war. Peaceful European coexistence with Putin is not possible; I feel sorry for you if you are too blind to see that obvious truth. |
| Putin has successfully managed to get Finland and Sweden into NATO with Ukraine on deck. |

It’s not acceptable, period.
It’s not acceptable to Human Rights Watch: “New Human Rights Watch research found that Ukrainian cluster munition rocket attacks on Russian-controlled areas in and around the city of Izium in eastern Ukraine during 2022 caused many casualties among Ukrainian civilians. Both countries should stop using these inherently indiscriminate weapons, and no country should supply cluster munitions because of their foreseeable danger to civilians. “Cluster munitions used by Russia and Ukraine are killing civilians now and will continue to do so for many years,” said Mary Wareham, acting arms director at Human Rights Watch. “Both sides should immediately stop using them and not try to get more of these indiscriminate weapons.” |
Can you remember when Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International were legitimate organizations? Yes, it's a long time ago. Ukraine wil use cluster munitions to help clear Russian occupied trenches in Ukrainian territory. Unlike the Russians, who were using them on civilians in Kherson and elsewhere The false equivalency is ridiculous |
|
It's just ridiculous we're at the cluster bomb stage when we could have bypassed all that by giving them air supremacy in the first place. Ukrainians are forced to thank NATO and friendly countries for all their (very significant) help, but no one gave them fighter jets last year. It's just mind-boggling the misplaced priorities here that end up costing lives and money. |
I don't think they consider the people in Eastern Ukraine to be Ukrainians, and so don't care too much if they get hurt.; |
Both side's air defenses are strong. The Russians haven't really risked their fighter planes at scale either because of the inevitable result. Supplying Ukraine with fighter jets would not have meaningfully tipped the scales. |
Lol they are only legitimate to you if they blame the right people. |
