Could you elaborate on these types of horrible heartbreaking stories? I would not be surprised if Manny treated the teachers disrespectfully. I find him to be so insincere. We will be former parents soon. |
It seems to me the main reason teachers would want to stay is the autonomy. At least that is what my kid made it sound like. |
Former teacher chiming in. Teachers are making more and doing less work. As a longtime classroom teacher, I was astounded by the amount of planning time we received. This is NOT a bad thing and teachers deserve to be able to complete their work AT work. Just very interesting when compared to other schools. |

Copied incorrectly above. Here it is again: The most recent one I learned of was when they hired a new teacher in the midst of being unable to pay their current teachers. Valmir and Rob willingly recruited a new, uninformed educator into their disastrous mess. They have absolutely no regard for others. However, I believe Rob was just following orders. We really enjoyed him during our time there. Can’t say the same for the rest… |
Good afternoon. My name is Nick Anderson. I'm an education writer with The Washington Post. In 2018, I wrote about preparations for the launch of the Whittle School (link below). I'd be grateful for a chance to speak with parents whose children have attended the school, now or in the past. If you'd like to contact me, my email is nick.anderson@washpost.com.
Many thanks, Nick https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/education/private-school-with-global-ambition-to-open-in-dc-and-china-in-2019/2018/02/07/c101aaa2-0b4b-11e8-95a5-c396801049ef_story.html |
About time. |
Please write a piece about Whittle School and Studios. It would be an eye opener piece for sure. It really deserves a page on the Washington Post. It is still surprising that only Washington Biz Journal is willing to report on this school. |
From what you are saying, it looks like pay was decent. Why did you leave? Was it the late paychecks? |
Late paychecks, continuous lies, the lack of accountability for student achievement, leadership team, no resources, the constant financial insecurity was always at the forefront of everyone’s mind. It can’t function like a proper school until that’s fully resolved. And even if that happens, I’m not sure there are enough qualified people TO make it function properly. |
Maybe a competent Head and educator had the vision and foresight to imagine something innovative and different. So you're saying that a person's past accomplishments and professional accolades are erased because they took a new job? Weird! |
My problem with him is that he left Whittle 2 years in, right as the COVID epidemic hit. I don't care how bad things were - abandoning those kids and parents at that time then speaks volumes. |
I prefer Dennis to Manny. |
Do you know why he left? He and a few other Administrators self-furloughed so that their salary could be used to keep the school going. He accepted an interim Head position away from his family for almost two years because he really wanted to Whittle to work. He believed in the vision. Where is the crime in that? As you seem to know it all, I assume that you read in the paper how Whittle's financials took a big hit because of Covid. If you ask any parent or student or former teacher at Whittle, they will tell you that he did not abandon them or the school. |
Do we know where this year's seniors are going to college? Or where last year's went? (I think there weren't any senior classes prior to last year?) |
