Two of them girls are the REAL DEAL and the rest are decent! Not sure if Arlington GA coach will allow them to dictate to him like they dictate to their current coach!

Only one SYC player has appeared at Arlington and she is not getting an offer so assuming not a top player. No one is going to displace their midfield either. Send defenders our way

There were 6 of them. They had their SYC colors on. Are you even on the team? The defense is okay its the midfield that need major help...but the style of play is not dependent on midfield because Arlington does not believe in the midfield...so why upgrade something you do not depend on?

So the top SYC players moved to McLean/VA Union and those who did not make the cut are at Arlington tryouts?

Let’s put it like this. If it was your kid would you just go to McLean because there is some type of agreement or would you look around to see what club/coach/team fits your kid the best? It is stupid not to check out at least three clubs.

I would definitely check out more than one club, but Arlington would not make my top 3 choices for girls. For boys, sure, I would look at Arlington program seriously, but Arlington girls program needs to play catch up despite having a large pool of players.

Arlington also doesn't believe in teaching the final phase - setting up goals and scoring

They just do not believe in midfield. It’s kick the ball to the other side of the field and hope your fast aggressive girl will get the ball and make a bad angle passshot that sometimes goes in. Lots of individuals doing their thing, not really a team game. It’s an ugly game but easy to coach.

Who are you? Nice try, but that is 100 percent untrue. In fact it is the opposite. At least on our Arlington team, the emphasize is on working it out of the back THROUGH the midfield and connecting passes. There is virtually no kick ball for better or worse. We constantly play against teams that do nothing but try to kick it over the top and goalies who punt 90% of the time.

DD got my offer from Virginia Union 08 ECNL. I am hearing a couple of girls are not accepting and going to other clubs so we are hesitant. This partnership has been very weird thus far....

Kids come and go. Don't make decisions based on "a couple kids leaving". There are likely kids joining.

Agreed! I can’t put my finger on it and maybe it is the combining to two very different club cultures, but the vibe is weird. Understandably everyone is being even more close to the vest than we have ever experienced. It will all be over soon and we can just get back to playing soccer.

question...what is an honest assessment of the Metro 08? I know they play GA and are mid pack in standings, but never hear about the club/team.

We are at Arlington in this age group and do not see it at all. Other teams have gotten better and we are just a kick ball team. Passes are rarely on the ground, just dump it down field and fight it out there. It’s been this way for two years now.

These types of mergers always tend to shake some players out but also add some players through more normal attrition. There may certainly be players at both clubs who were making plans to consider other clubs long before such a merger was ever know or announced. There were likely kids looking to both join and leave McLean before and there were likely SYC kids who were looking for other ECNL clubs beforehand.

Some SYC kids may have been looking at McLean already and others may have been looking at VDA or Arlington. Announcing a merger likely did not change anyone's mind. Those who were planning on going to McLean didn't have to do anything and those who were looking elsewhere already just had to do what they were going to do.

They lost to SJEB at 0-1 and they play Arlington this weekend.

They are 4th out of 10. Arlington is 3rd. The teams seem to get better as the year goes by and the kids(and parents) I know seem to like the club.
