Physicians Assistant yelling “HELP ME” while stealing a CitiBike ?

I hate all the videos of everything.

Peace to this poor woman. The young men should provide community service.

I do think she will be able to work again, for the same hospital even.

But I also think that for a long time, she will wonder to herself if any patient or colleague she encounters believes her to be a racist and a thief. And she'll never know if someone is responding to her on the basis of her actual actions, or based on a belief of who she is based on lies that were posted about her online.

Reputation is tricky like that. I do think the people who spread lies and misinformation in ways that damaged this woman's reputation unfairly should be held responsible. It should not be considered a small thing to do this because it can damage a person for a long time.

Well, she can rest assured that those are uneducated morons who get their news from Twitter blowhards like Monique Judge. They are uninformed people whose opinions she shouldn't worry about. Plus, if they are in the hospital they probably have bigger fish to fry than worry about the reputation of the person caring for them at the moment.

Bellevue serves a population that is largely not white. If I worked there and there were rumors about me being a racist or a white supremacist or someone who endangers black people, or there were calls for my treatment of people of color as patients to be investigated, even if I knew these claims were false, I would definitely worry it would impact may ability treat patients, make them feel comfortable, etc. These are essential parts of the PA's job, and the people spreading lies about her online, using her full name, could actually be destroying the trust that might otherwise exist between the PA and her patients.

It's easy to say "oh just don't worry about those people think" when your job does not involve daily interaction with the general public in a capacity that requires trust and honest communication.

Eh, they will forget her name next week. Most people even on here are just calling her the PA. I'm not minimizing the effect this is having on her, I just don't think long term reputational harm from her patients isn't a big concern. The suckers who fell for this scam will be on to the next outrage in a few days and the PA, whatever her name is, will be forgotten. As it is they think her name is Karen.

A relatively small percentage of people saw the video, and an even smaller percentage of people give a crap about what actually transpired. You probably won't get anyone to agree with you because people who waste several hours a day on social media (ditto for politics) think that everyone else is doing the same thing. They're not. They're doing other stuff that is more fulfilling, or they're caught up in the rat race and don't care about the insanity going on in your head. People like this constantly seek out drama via social media or so called news websites. They are filling a void in their sad lives and it's basically a never ending cycle.

Ah yeah, it appears that one of the posters is infatuated with the PA. She sees herself as a victim and loves to feel the pain of the PA. It wouldn't surprise me if she trys to interject herself into the situation in real life. Hopefully she can find a hobby like pickleball or this could get ugly!

I can see why you are struggling with other people's perspective on this. They are employing something called "empathy" -- if you have time this week, look it up. Could open up a whole new world for you.

This could happen to anyone.

And the PA has moved on and is only going after the media and Twitter morons who doxed her and ruined her reputation. You should move on too.

Except this could happen to any one of us regardless of race. Or our kids.

The video is all over the internet as is her name.

For people who are looking for it or care. Most people don’t. The few people trying to tarnish her name will be disappointed.

If this was a different person would you still think that. Her name is out there to google. People care. If it was no big deal why was she suspended from her job?

Sure some people care but they are insignificant losers. So what? She will get paid out of this. She’s already up well above $100,000.

That’s for attorneys (like people donated assuming it would go to attorneys fees). It won’t replace income or become a college fund.

I mean, no point arguing in here if there’s reputational damage. My original point was that she will always wonder if people think these things, because there’s a chance they will. Sure, many people will have no idea or care, but if there are defaming lies about you on the internet, it will impact your ability to work and function in the world, because you never know when someone might Google you.

Or maybe she makes a second career out of this becoming an advocate for people unfairly maligned. Lemonade out of lemons. Only a few crazies refuse to face the facts and continue to fault her. Like Sandmann, she will likely be successful in her lawsuits clearing her name.

People usually don’t become doctors, nurses and PAs on a whim. It’s not like answering phones at the hospital. She likely has a calling for this field (especially to endure it through Covid) and doesn’t want to just switch her life around to become an activist because of this.

Not all doctors are good people however this incident had nothing to do with it and she should not lose her job over it even if she was wrong.

The lawsuit can’t fix every jerk who’s out there. What it can do is start making the social media folks with big followings think twice about posting this stuff.

And if that happens, jerks who were being jerks just for the fun of having it go viral will have less point to their jerkiness. (Not saying that’s what the men’s motive was, we don’t know, maybe they were just garden variety jerks, but again we’re never going to fix everybody.)

Once again: this stopped being about the PA days ago. Now it’s about social media pitchfork mobs and hateful use of the term Karen.

Because there is literally NEVER a circumstance where is there is NO racism, when white people are involved. And I say this AS a white woman. I AM a former racist.

The only racism that happened here was by four black men against a white woman. They chose her for a reason.

They chose a very nice, kindhearted woman who was working in their community to make life better for people who are sick. Shame on them.

Folks, let's just ignore the troll -- report her posts when they are egregious, but don't engage.

I don't want this thread to be shut down because I think it's been a valuable conversation, but it also seems like there's nothing new to discuss at the moment so let's not get locked into some pointless back and forth with someone who's just trying to provoke. That way the thread is still here should there be any new developments.

I did and the post is now gone, thanks Jeff. Although there are two types of trolls on this thread, the RWNJ and the poster attacking anybody who’s sympathetic to the PA.

I haven't seen any posts from a RWNJ, just someone making weird racial comments and someone else getting upset when they disagree with her take on the situation. I'm not sure why someone would report a comment they don't like or disagree with. Stop being such a wimp.

If the moderator deleted it, it was more than a disagreement, it was bad.

Agree with pp, let’s stop until there’s something new to talk about.

Since the men went into hiding there probably will not have anything new. They'll cover up the rest. The hospital will probably let her return (or they will fire her and the attorney will sue). It doesn't meet the media's needs for clicks. They don't want to hear this woman did nothing wrong, they want to hear she was a horrible white woman who was in the wrong. I'd love to see the police or media find those men and get to the truth.

I hope we find out how the lawsuits turn out. Do you think the name of the man who scanned the bike code with his phone will come out in court? It seems like it could be included when the PA’s attorney subpoenas the rental records from Citibike.
