Five football players tested positive at ND, halting all practices.

| It's outrageous that they were considering fall sports. $$$ over safety. |
| Young football players will be fine. Wait a sec. The freshman Georgia State quarterback got covid, was asymptomatic, and now has a heart defect that will end his football days. But, as Lord Farquaad said -- "Some of you may die, but it is a price I am willing to pay." |
I know, and he's just the most recent. I am so sick of colleges' sports over all attitude -- during a pandemic, no less. And Notre Dame, my alma mater, is unfortunately the worst offender. I had a lot of respect for them when they said they would be testing all students and set up surveillance testing. But so far they test and retest athletes, while students who have been exposed scramble to get tests. It's starting to resemble the White House testing system which allows Trump to go maskless where he wants to travel, because he and others around him are aggressively tested. Some pigs really are more equal than others. Sally Jenkins had a great article about the perversity of trying to create a college bubble for football players and other athletes in The Washington Post today, https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2020/08/20/if-colleges-prioritize-football-during-this-pandemic-their-true-sickness-will-be-revealed/ |

They can absolutely have their freedom to party, but the university also has the right to decide who can be on campus. They can have that freedom without being a student. - not a ND fan |

I would add the obvious:
This thread is about Notre Dame, but it could be about any number of other schools. My alma mater maybe got it right, but it was not until the very last second before they pulled the plug on in-person classes. By then, of course, people had made the commitments -- buying dorm things, etc. . . |
Search Indiana University on Facebook, click their main page. It’s a reply to the first comment on the “sanctions for non-compliance” post which was posted four hours ago. FWIW, of the 14 reactions to the comment, 8 are the Orange mad face, four are the laughing react, 3 sad reacts, and one wow react— so obviously not a popular opinion. |
Thanks sherlock. The parent's pages are full of this but you have to join. |
They're all having the same problems. Parties, not enough compliance with restrictions etc. I'm interested in what is happening at the larger universities when students have symptoms/get sick and how that is being handled. I am seeing becoming a problem at several universities. There is lots of confusion re where to get tested and what happens if a positive result occurs. |

My kid’s friend (18yo) got Covid and then a Kawasaki-like illness early in the summer and it was NOT pleasant. |
He should have his heard and lungs checked now. With those as pre-cursers I would think that his insurance should cover the cost of the checks. Better to know now if there are defects that may mean some life changes. |
