Young football players will be fine. Wait a sec. The freshman Georgia State quarterback got covid, was asymptomatic, and now has a heart defect that will end his football days. But, as Lord Farquaad said -- "Some of you may die, but it is a price I am willing to pay."
I know, and he's just the most recent. I am so sick of colleges' sports over all attitude -- during a pandemic, no less. And Notre Dame, my alma mater, is unfortunately the worst offender. I had a lot of respect for them when they said they would be testing all students and set up surveillance testing. But so far they test and retest athletes, while students who have been exposed scramble to get tests. It's starting to resemble the White House testing system which allows Trump to go maskless where he wants to travel, because he and others around him are aggressively tested. Some pigs really are more equal than others. Sally Jenkins had a great article about the perversity of trying to create a college bubble for football players and other athletes in The Washington Post today, https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2020/08/20/if-colleges-prioritize-football-during-this-pandemic-their-true-sickness-will-be-revealed/
