I'm watching this now. It's weird how many overtones of "Bad Art Friend" there are. When Lexie steals Pearl's experience of racism/classism in order to write her college essay, we (the viewer) are clearly meant to be morally outraged. The photography teacher questions Mia about using other people's photographs in her collages: when does inspiration cross the line of inspiration into stealing other peoples' work? For someone who has apparently wrestled with this notion, Ng is pretty glib about this idea when it's applied in real life.
