Freedom Hill principal going to Haycock

Where was the self-contained classroom teacher in all of this? Shouldn’t they have been aware?

And who were the APs at the school- they should have also known.

One of the aids had worked there for 19 years. So I wonder how many other victims there were.

The AP has moved to a new school. I doubt he knew or this would have been uncovered.

The lack of info on the lead teacher is strange. My child is in a self-contained Autism classroom and it is rare that the aids are handling the kids without the teacher being present. The aid travel with 2 kids at a time when they go to gen ed classrooms. So there are lots of eyes around.

I just can’t imagine such lack of supervision in a more severely disabled classroom setting.

I wrote to Brabrand about why Bloom is still on payroll. Here's the cryptic and non responsive message I received from the email system:

Thank you for your inquiry. As you know, Fairfax County Police announced criminal charges earlier this week against three FCPS employees for alleged behavior associated with their employment at Freedom Hill Elementary. Two of the employees are no longer with FCPS. Mr. Bloom remains on leave. Virginia law prevents disclosure of personnel matters unless the affected employee gives their consent. Therefore, we are not at liberty to discuss Mr. Bloom’s status beyond what has already been shared.

As Dr. Brabrand indicated in his letter to the community, when FCPS was made aware of these allegations in September, immediate steps were taken to remove from the school the staff members under investigation; experienced special education teachers were assigned to the impacted classroom; and impacted families were contacted regarding the staffing changes.

Teachers and staff have been trained in best practices and in legal requirements regarding mandated reporting of suspected abuse. As Principal Zapadka noted in his message to Freedom Hill parents, the alleged actions of these individuals do not represent the great work and dedication of the school’s teaching staff. This week’s announcement reinforces our commitment to do everything that we can to ensure that all of our students are learning in a safe environment.

Appalling why FCPS won't disclose why Bloom is still on payroll.

The aide worked for FCPS for 19 years? There are many other victims who were never protected from her because they were kids with SNs who couldn’t protect themselves.
No one is a model employee for 18 years and then becomes a child abuser.

Know the school. Friends go there. Are things better? I’d think he would have been implicated by now if he was at all involved but when it comes to zualaga and fcps need to cover, who knows. Fcps really needs to get it together.

I wonder if he'll be able to cash out any unused leave if he gets terminated?

One more time - employers don’t have to wait for a criminal conviction to fire a principal for failing to prevent abuse in their school. He failed at protecting those children.

I wonder what is else is going to come out as a result of this. Special Needs parents have been silenced by FCPS for too long and now feel like someone is finally listening.

It's been one thing after another for that poor school.

Freedom Hill? That's the school where the abuse occurred.

ap

So what other than this happened to warrant the “it’s been one thing after another for that school” claim??
