And, while I'm on my soapbox, I am glad that racism is being condemned and Roseanne has been punished. But, she is an outspoken Islamophobe who has made bigoted comments about Muslims for years with no repercussions.

I don't follow and haven't paid attention to Roseanne for years and years--until I watched her show.

Her show a week or so ago exposed bias towards Muslims. If you had not posted this, I would not have known that she was an Islamaphobe. Ironic.

I think that what Chris Rock is saying is that if an equal amount of white kids were shot every month, something would be done about it. Rather than being racist himself, he is highlighting the racism that exists in our society that allows black kids to be murdered on a regular basis with no publicity, yet goes 24/7 wall to wall coverage over white kids being shot. He is making a social comment. Can you tell me what social commentary Roseanne was offering when she compared Jarrett to an ape?

Not sure what was said before, but I am not defending Roseanne and already posted multiple times she is wrong and glad she was fired. What I am asking from above is that I understand the difference in political comments vs racism comments, but is that the same as why can black comedians make fun of white people as a race? Why can a black comedian wish more white kids could die with a crowd of laughter. Why is that allowed? You are saying because we were not once oppressed that he is allowed to say that? And how do you know what Chris Rock means? He never made one comment about it after the fact. I am a white person who understands what CR was getting it, but it's fine if you don't. And it would have been understandable if Chris Rock's shows got cancelled because of his comments because not everyone can see past his routine to "get" his point. It doesn't sound like you are open to Rock's point of view, but you should be aware that it does make sense to plenty of people.

Wishing more white kids to die right after a school shooting is beyond distasteful, whether he wanted to prove a point or not. Sounds like you don't understand that, but it's fine if you don't.

You really don't get it. In a nutshell CR is saying if whites kids were killed/shot at the same rate as black kids then maybe the authorities would do something about all kids getting shot/killed. Doesn't matter who's doing the shooting/killing. Has nothing to do with the lack of oppression to white people. We want white men (because they are in power) to care about black children getting killed. You do realize that to many, it appears that no really cares about children of color when they go missing, are murdered, raped and abused.

The past few PPs have been discussing violence in black neighborhoods. Please don’t be purposely obtuse. Why wasn't anything done during those 8 years to improve things? I guess he can't be held accountable because he is black too? Doesn't matter who's doing the shooting/killing. Has nothing to do with the lack of oppression to white people. We want white men (because they are in power) to care about black children getting killed. You do realize that to many, it appears that no really cares about children of color when they go missing, are murdered, raped and abused.

I think that what Chris Rock is saying is that if an equal amount of white kids were shot every month, something would be done about it. Rather than being racist himself, he is highlighting the racism that exists in our society that allows black kids to be murdered on a regular basis with no publicity, yet goes 24/7 wall to wall coverage over white kids being shot. He is making a social comment. Can you tell me what social commentary Roseanne was offering when she compared Jarrett to an ape?

I am not the previous posters in this above comments, but just the one that mentioned the Chris Rock. Not sure what was said before, but I am not defending Roseanne and already posted multiple times she is wrong and glad she was fired. What I am asking from above is that I understand the difference in political comments vs racism comments, but is that the same as why can black comedians make fun of white people as a race? Why can a black comedian wish more white kids could die with a crowd of laughter. Why is that allowed? You are saying because we were not once oppressed that he is allowed to say that? The point is, you don’t have white people blaming *their* violence on blacks, or insisting that blacks fix it, or that blacks are somehow responsibile. Last I checked, we DO take responsibility. We’re certainly not blaming other racial groups for our faults.
