There was no social media 30 years ago. I'd venture to say 99% of people who follow celeb gossip in 2020 have never heard about this relationship. Celebs, including comedians, are currently getting raked over the coals for old well-known behavior, e.g. Howard Stern, Jimmy Kimmel, Mel Gibson.

And yes, I safely assume there's a trove of fascinating details which were never reported back in the 90s.

Maybe! I was 20 when this happened and not a big follower of celebrity news, but even I was aware of this relationship at the time. It wasn't a secret - and I don't know what secrets there would to be uncovered? They were dating - it was understood that meant they were also having sex. What else do you think we didn't know that we'd care about now?

Maybe you're right there are people younger than I am who never heard about this before, and maybe they would care? What do you think the effect would be though? No more Seinfeld reruns? No Bee Movie III?

I don't know about when they married- she is 17 years younger than him. I don't think it was a "thing" though as she was was a divorcee and not near underage. Like how everyone considers Amal Clooney to be an "age appropriate" match even though she is 16 years younger, which would generally be considered quite the gap outside of Hollyweird.
