Has anyone received an HGC letter yet?!

Just got our score letter in the mail. the letter said that "your child's percentile rank is 97" and "The median percentile for the application poll is 67". Also the letter said "Scores on this assessment are reported using a national percentile rank, which ranges form 1 to 99 ". DC was accepted into Drew. Our school is a part of the MCPS pilot program. DC took a computer test in Feb.

I have received both letters. I find it interesting that some are reporting percentages. On my child's score sheet, there was no percentage just the median score of those tested and his score. Are there different score sheets being sent home? We are cold spring.

Yes, I'm curious if the people reporting percentages are in the pilot programs (Drew, Fox Chapel, Stonegate, Matsunaga, and maybe Piney Branch) vs. the scores being reported at the traditional programs (like Cold Spring). My kid is in Drew but we haven't got the score letter yet.

Another data point: my nephew was rejected from Drew. The letter said he was 94th percentile and median for pool was 67th percentile.

My kid got in to Barnsley; score was 136.

I know of 6 other kids in addition to mine from our home school who have gotten in and 2 who are waitlisted although neither number is likely the complete tally.

One of the other 6 accepted is in my kid's class, and told my kid that she's not going to go....I'm really not sure why families bother to apply if they know in advance they won't go if accepted.

6 accepted and 2 waitlisted from the same home school?! Just wondering what home school is that?

Last year something like 20 kids from Ashburton (I think?) went to the Barnsley HGC.

16:35 Not quite: 11 Accepted, 9 attending. Not sure how many on the WL; at least 1 AES kid accepted off the WL but declined

My son tested under the new pilot program for Drew ES, his national percentile ranking is 99, highest MAP-M and R at his ES but he was not accepted or wait listed for Drew. Now what????

There's an appeal process for this, just as there is for the middle and high school programs. If the elementary school process is anything like the middle-school process, appeals that start from a rejection usually go to the waitpool.

Just got my child's scores. Accepted at Drew, 98%.

PP with the 99% who was not accepted or waitlisted, that is strange. Seems definitely worth appealing. How do you know he had the highest MAP scores at home school?

My kid did not make it into Barnesly with a test score of 133. What's the highest score that a kid could have gotten?

Someone earlier mentioned that from the same elementary school, a child with a 136 got in to the HGC, but another with a 132 didn't (or was waitlisted). There was also a PP who said their child got a 142, which is the highest I've seen someone mention on this thread.

My kid got a 138 and was accepted to Pine Crest.

Median of applicants to Pine Crest/Oak View was 113; DC got 130 and is on waitlist.

My son was accepted to Barnesley with a score of 148.

My son is on waitlist of Cold Spring. His score is 141. Sigh.

I'd also like to know the Medians for the different HGCs.

Does that mean certain HGCs are harder to get into than others?

These low medians make me wonder if there really are that many HGC level kids who don't get in.

Our HGC is Fox Chapel and the letter says the median percentile for the applicant pool is 79. Is the applicant pool all applicants who would be assigned to that HGC or just the applicants from our home school?
