Why tf did they leave their dogs behind??!

Sorry for the tangent--dog-lover here.

I wouldn't fret over the dogs. Chances are they arranged care for the dogs and it's an insignificant detail that wouldn't be in the news. When I leave town, I have a service that walks my dog 3 times a day.

Maybe they just need a break from all the media? I'd be more worried if they took the dogs, because I'd think they really were never coming back.

Do someone post the heavy.com article about the weird not-really-ransom-negotiator who was negotiating this one. Someone smells off about this? I saw it a couple days ago but can't remember if it was on here or another site.

I'm starting to hate the media even more than usual. Skipped town???? Says who? Because the media wasn't notified of their whereabouts they 'skipped' town? I don't know if the kidnapping was a hoax or not but this is not a story. They made arrangements to leave town to get some privacy. Jesus.

Interesting. This actually makes me more likely to believe that it's not a hoax - she likely has PTSD and is terrified to stay in her house.

Or she's skipping town to try to avoid prosecution for the hoax . . .

This is an interesting post from a criminal profiler:

OK. I read today that Sherri's high school friend - who was blonde and cute, too - disappeared years ago while going for a solo jog at the same place where Sherri was jogging. I mean. Seriously?

I do not believe this woman as far as I can throw her. And with my bad knee...

Holy cow. That guy and Sherri probably cooked this all up.

I'm sure losing a friend like that in her youth made an outsized impression. She maybe got the idea for the hoax from that incident.

That's my point! Her M.O. isn't even original.

But what would be the point of doing that?

Same reasons anyone pulls a hoax. Money or attention. Or maybe she was having an affair.

The ransom money.
Book advance money.
Fame & fortune from 20/20 type exposure.
Covering up an affair.
Leaving her husband.
Helping her new boyfriend (the shady negotiator) get his own business some street cred.
...plenty of reasons. Not GOOD reasons but they're reasons. Things got out of hand, though, and now she's in trouble.
