I Miss Target!

I don't think unisex bathrooms means what you all think it means.

I lived in other countries where this has been going on for years. It usually means one bathroom not men and women peeing together.

As usual, America is years behind the rest of the world. Don't worry US - we will drag you kicking and screaming into 1990s.

What about WOMEN'S RIGHTS? Do you really want to see your daughter go in the bathroom and a man follows her in? Target is saying ANY MAN can go in the women's bathroom.
It's all the men that might take advantage of Target's new policy that I'm concerned about that will prey upon innocent girls and women.

I'm not shopping at Target anymore. You better believe that other companies are watching people's reactions to Target and waiting to decide what to do about their bathrooms.

This is absolutely correct.

To me, this is over the edge. I can accept (reluctantly, I admit) unisex bathrooms because I get that people are typically in and out, with one purpose in mind. Fitting rooms, on the other hand, are something else. My teen DD and her friends love to go in and try on clothes, debate between the green and yellow shirt, etc. They spend more time in fitting rooms than I ever would, but it's all part of the fun for them in a "Target Run." Can anyone honestly see how this does not have the potential for major safety issues?

Never done this before, but I'm now part of the boycott. Hello, CVS, Wal-greens and.... Wal-Mart?

That's ok. Plenty of us aren't into boogey man scare tactics. Rather, plenty of us rely on facts. How many trans folks crimes are you able to find stats on? You know these male trans have already been using the bathrooms with your sons? Google the gun statistics in this country and you'll see the real problem in this country.

I'll make sure to make an extra stop there this month to make up for your loss.

Yes, it's so confusing! Do NOT allow that dude into the bathroom with your daughter. But it is acceptable for him to go into the same bathroom as your son.
Is that what some of you are saying? Do I have that right?

I will continue shopping at Target.

What worries me is...even though I was born female, and am still a heterosexual female, I am a large tall woman. The only place I have EVER has anyone refer to me as "sir" is the DC metro!!

Now I am getting paranoid...are all these bathroom police going to check everyone's gender? Do I need to keep my original birth certificate with me at all times, just in case someone does not think I am short enough or small enough to be a woman?

I'm at the point where I am going to start kicking little boys out of the women's room and make them go to the men's room next door--even though I know it is probably not as safe for them. You all seem to care about your little girls only, and if we don't look girly enough, maybe not so much then.

Maybe that's what unisex means, but what Target means is that men dressing as women or who think they are women, get to go in the women's room. Transgender people do not think it is sufficient that they get to go in a unisex room. They want to go in the bathroom of the sex that they think they are whether or not they have that plumbing.

I don't get the idea that this poster understands Columbia Heights or has been there much at all.

Is this an offended hick rublerouser from Iowa trying to stir things up?

Josh Duggar posting from 'rehab'? Getting ready to resume his career at the 'Family 'we do prostitutes' Council?

From the petition: "This means a man can simply say he "feels like a woman today" and enter the women's restroom...even if young girls or women are already in there."

Being a transgender individual does not at all mean "feeling like a woman today." Plus, any person who goes into any bathroom for the purpose of harassment or violence is breaking the law. Period. Allowing trans individuals to use the bathroom does not and will not change that.

Of course it does. It's just a matter of nuance. Just like the PP who "feels like a 70 year old today," even though s/he looks about 30, and expects entitlements like the senior citizens discount. Why not? If it's all based on feelings, who is to state otherwise?

I said this a few pages back, and I will say it again.

The OP will not go through on the threat. In addition, Target is not going to go out of business because of one person. People shop there for a variety of reasons, whether it is food shopping or because one isn't a fan of Wal-Mart or other competitors.

And I'll say it again: I absolutely will. And just FYI, the signatures on the petition are up to something like 1.2 million people now. The stock at Target is down more than 2.5 billion dollars, as of Friday.

If even just a tenth of these people go through on the "threat," as you call it, Target will definitely suffer for this for some time to come.

OP, what about the vast number of other stores that have the same unisex dressing rooms, you were asked and you ignored it twice? and what do you say to the fact that this policy is not new, why is it an issue now, just because it is in the news?

You act concerned for your daughter and her friends but shopping elsewhere means the same dressing room set-up, and it would seem up until now they were changing in the same dressing rooms before this became a political talking point

Who are these people who send their children into sketchy bathrooms by themselves, anyway? I've never counted on any law to keep myself or my children safe in public places. Plenty of men have forced their way into bathrooms and other out of the way places to rape and assault women - long before there were any transgender protections.

Dude, I get that you have no idea what the life of a trans person is like based on the fact that you think this is a valid point. It is not, Trans people aren't changing their minds day to day like trying on a new pair of shoes. I get that you think it is not worth educating yourself over but maybe stop listening to the most ignorant things you can find for resources.

I don't buy that trying on stuff at Target is a big issue either. Really?!
You're telling me that you go to the Columbia Heights Target to try on clothes. I'm not buying it.
Most people don't buy many clothes there and you can easily bring something home and return what you don't like.
Josh - is that you?

Perhaps , though, they'll have to start redesigning changing rooms to be like the ones where each stall simply faces out into the store to appease all the paranoid insecure people.

Question for you: Why do you assume that this poster is the one who needs to be educated? Did it ever occur to you that perhaps you are wrong on this issue? That, in fact, transgenderism is a very serious mental disorder and something to be treated as such, as opposed to asking the rest of the world to just go along and pretend that red is blue and green is yellow?
