+1. It really sounds as if the lady was completely disruptive and I applaud Planet Fitness for this move. |
So there are a host of other gyms that provide support for people of your viewpoint, and there is ONE gym that provides for the comfort and security of the transgender community (and others who are judged or made uncomfortable by standard gyms) and you want them to change their policies so that there are NO publically available gyms that provide them a comfortable location to exercise? Stop your kvetching about PF, pick another gym and let the transgender, their supporters and those who don't care use this gym. |
If a woman sees someone with a penis in the ladies lockeroom, she should have a right to complain. If she is able to see someone's penis, they obviously are doing a good job of being discrete. It isnt a matter at staring at genitals, its about being reasonably shocked and uncomfortable if you notice the wrong one. I don't know that you're trans upon sight of your penis, and it would make me uncomfortable. |
I totally agree. We all know a busybody that just LOVES to talk and gossip about others, under the guise of "concern." I would love a gym that has a policy against these types. |
I never said anything about changing their policy. They can do what they like, I just disagree with it. Surely you can understand that. |
What is it about someone with a penis that makes you uncomfortable? Is it the idea that they may be ogling you? If so, do you feel that way about gay men? Lesbians? |
Did this woman actually see a penis? Or did she just see a very masculine looking woman? |
You still haven't clarified what "for obvious reason" that is, about penises or otherwise, that should not be in the same locker room as a vagina. I've encountered some really obnoxious women that like to look, size up, and compare other women's bodies in the locker room. It's gross. I've never looked at their genitals, but they look like women. That kind of shit bothers me far more than someone who keeps their eyes to themselves, but may have a penis. |
Then let's just do away with gendered locker rooms altogether, since you all are so evolved that it doesn't matter. Would that be okay with you? If not, why? |
I'd have no problem with that, personally. However, that's not what we're talking about here, so I don't think that any of the PPs need to defend a system that no one is actually proposing or implementing, nor does it have anything to do with the system that we're discussing. |
But nobody is saying that there shouldn't be gendered locker rooms. In fact, people are saying that it's fine for Planet Fitness to have locker rooms separated by gender -- gender, not sex, not genitals, not chromosomes. (A gym that asked for my karyotype before allowing me to use a locker room is a gym that I would not join.) |
| How many of you read the article posted in the OP? They interviewed a prominent member of the transgender community, who thought that complainer's issues are valid and advocated for separate changing rooms. I personally think that family changing/restrooms should be a requirement for the majority of public facilities. |
| You'd be comfortable sending your teenaged daughter into a changing room with grown men? How is that not what we're talking about? Some people are uncomfortable with people who appear to be male changing in the women's locker room. Many posters have said that it shouldn't matter because no one should be looking. If that's the case, why separate us at all? No one should be looking, and we should all be totally cool with penises in the women's locker room. |
| I wonder if the same posters who are uncomfortable are the same ones who don't let their 10 Year old go into the locker room alone for fear of molestation. |
No she saw a woman who was broad shouldered and tall walk in and retrieve her purse from a locker. |
