The latest message from the city about it:

Police Continue to Investigate Homicide

Since the February 6, shooting, that resulted in the death of Ruthanne Ladoto, Alexandria Police have worked around the clock gathering information.

The release of the suspect composite on Friday generated an enormous number of tips; as a result the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is assisting the department with agents and analysts to help vet each and every tip.

Beginning tomorrow detectives and officers will be out in the community surrounding Ridge Road Drive speaking with residents and handing out flyers. Any law enforcement officer you encounter will identify themselves and have credentials. If you are apprehensive, call 703.746.4444 or 9-1-1 if you are in immediate danger.

Residents should continue to take standard precautions with their safety. Lock your doors and windows at all times. Be sure of who is at your door before you answer. Do not open your door for strangers.

The Alexandria Police Department will keep the public informed as the investigation progresses. For the latest updates visit alexandriava.gov/police. Report any suspicious activity to 703.746.4444.

Could you please explain?

Bump. Yes, please! More info needed!!

There was a lot going on in her family at the time. All of her colleagues/close friends were thoroughly grilled at the time & those of us w/ enough contact w/ various family members of hers were approached repeatedly by detectives. I would find it pretty shocking if her murder was random and/or had anything to do w/ these other 2. I was also thoroughly impressed w/ the police work at the time. I know that sounds odd considering it's unsolved.

Tomorrow would be 4 full days after the shooting. WHY DIDN'T THEY CONSIDER DOING THIS EARLIER?? Everyone knows the moments after a shooting, especially the first 24 hours, are the most crucial - also to get the most accurate accounts from possible witnesses. Honestly, this sounds more like a PR initiative than productive investigation.

Saw an interview w/Euille on TV where he stated officers and even he himself had been going door to door in the neighborhood talking to neighbors/residents. I highly doubt this is the first time APD has talked to neighbors. In fact, earlier in this thread someone said something about a (neighbor) witness seeing a man running from the scene when a dog barked. They've talked to the neighbors, so maybe they're just expanding the area they've talked to.

If anyone has information about this case or THINKS info they have may help, please don't wait for an officer to knock at your door. Call the number provided by APD.

Two reasons:

1) Possible Serial crime
2) Crossing state lines

APD just posted on FB:
Detectives and officers still actively working the Lodato homicide. The FBI is assisting with the investigation of each and every tip.

There are flyers everywhere on my street and neighboring street, even more than the Houdini dog ones.

I'm curious where the description that's being distributed came from. Was it from the surviving victim?

I just don't see how the guy got away on foot and has still not been apprehended. There was an article that stated the neighbor across the street heard screaming and watched him run away. That means police must have gotten there within 5 minutes of the crime, if not sooner? Where did he disappear in 5 minutes?? You know everyone in the area was questioned that first day, including the neighbor across the street, and no one has reported seeing this guy in a 5 minute radius at that time of day? I just don't understand.

Yeah, I've been trying to think that through, too. Maybe he parked a car a few streets away?

All three occurred in close proximity, in pretty much the same neighborhood. Maybe he has some kind of grudge against the neighborhood? Development changes?

So scary, sad, and strange...

This is a completely viable possibility. Development makes off kilter types go off the edge, unfortunately. Especially the types that think they "need" guns. Such a shame.

Why doesn't NSA know who this guy is? Thought they monitor everything.

Ruthann's was our son's Music Together teacher. What a kind, gifted woman. Such a loss.
