No fast food or tv for DS. And DS doesn't watch tv at daycare. If I SAH, DS would probably watch some. All the kids I know whose parents SAH watch a TON of tv.
Eh, maybe some of the SAHM. My mom stayed home with me and while I remember watching a few shows (Mister Rogers, Pinwheel) the tv also went "off" at certain times. I had no trouble reading, making up games, or playing independently. The question people aren't asking is, do you always cook healthy, low-fat food at home. Just b/c someone cooks all the meals, that doesn't mean it is always healthier than options at a fast food place.
Agree that homemade doesn't always mean healthy but typically if you are cooking, it will have less sodium and other crap than at a restaurant. The research supports this as well. For me, I am very particular about where our dairy and poultry comes from, and about what ingredients we use. Low fat is not always healthy - your body needs healthy fats. What we strive for is to be able to recognize all ingredients - rather than open a box of food that has a bunch of ingredients you can pronounce or recognize. I just think for the most part if you are cooking and serving you are doing much better than McDonalds. But it's not like we cook with a bunch of butter or salt nor do we fry anything. We both WOHM, we just make meal planning a priority. Between the two of us it really doesn't take that much time. Certainly less of a hassle than getting in the car and driving to McDonalds which is the last thing I'd want to do after getting home from work.
