For my messy street in my neighborhood yes plow will help, or we can wait in 2 days it will probably clear itself.

It’ll be 38 later today, it’s going to be gone by tomorrow morning

Not quoting the screamer but chill out.

They have not missed 8+ days due to snow. They have missed 4 1/2 days. The Wednesday they missed was an early release day. That Thursday and Friday were scheduled off. Those days were 100% justified given the conditions of sidewalks and roads. That Monday was a bit iffy but it was erroring on the side of caution.

Yelling on an anonymous message board is good for venting but does nothing to influence the situation.

FCPS could do a better job planning for winter by holding school on President's Day and MLK day knowing that there are likely to be disruptions due to weather. Both are close to Winter Break and neither are holidays that are universally given off across the country. FCPS knows that there will be two off days for the end of second quarter, so have school on those Federal Holidays for continuity purposes.

Agree with this. FCPS shouldn't schedule so many days off in the Winter.

September we were off because it was "Election Day".. Then we were out from January 26th and came back February 3rd. Off again today, and most likely April 21st.

I think you need to subtract the 3 hour early dismissals too for the elementary schools. Thinking in hours vs days.

I am not worried about those. I am talking about how the weather disruptions in the winter feel that much worse because the calendar in the winter is already a mess. The kids have at 5 planned days off, 7 if you include New Years Day and Jan 2 in January and February. Now you toss in 5 snow days and they have missed 10 or 12 days of school. If they go to school on MLK day and President's Day they gain back two of those days. Remove the Teacher Work Day after President's Day and you get back three days.

January and February don't have to feel as disjointed as they always end up because we can plan on the kids being in school on two Federal Holidays expecting snow days.

As a teacher I have no clue why we had that TWD last Tuesday. Too early into 3rd quarter to be all that useful or productive. Looking ahead at the calendar… April/May are a real slog of 5 day weeks and testing. We could have peppered in an extra TWD there instead of now.

I agree....too many unknowns and ice. We have snow days built in for a reason.

It’s already gone downtown. Since the federal government is no longer so generous with telework, there’s a lot of people going out of pocket – including those at DHS not getting paid— for this absolute foolishness.

It’s because it was Lunar New Year and this is what FCPS does

It's already online school.....not much teaching happening. High school teachers have it all in slides. ES kids sitting on computer programs in school.

At our most recent School Board meeting, a calendar adjustment was approved in preparation for the Commonwealth of Virginia’s special election on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. Several Waynesboro schools will serve as polling locations that day.
IT HAPPENING ALL AROUND VIRGINIA.
