You don’t know what you’re talking about, typical Republican. |
Meren is afraid of losing students from SLHS to Skyview and is focused on equity. She said at one meeting that the new school isn't equitable because it is nice and new and that isn't fair to schools that are older. Apparently any new school that is built in the future needs to be built so that it looks old and used? She should have actually voted no if she wasn't in favor of the school but chose to abstain instead. Not exactly bravely standing up for her position. |
How dare you fact check a DCUM troll! |
Lol I know. This troll just keeps reviving this thread even after the purchase was finalized several months ago.
|
Meren will pluck from thin air whatever half baked excuse she needs to justify her dumb positions on things. She is not the brightest. |
When it's an all-Democratic school board, an abstention is still breaking ranks from the majority. You dismiss her concerns, but of course they have dragged their feet about setting boundaries for Skyview, because when they do that it will put the impact on other schools into sharper focus. |
No, Moon is the brightest, and he did not support buying this building because there hadn't been enough due diligence. His concerns were well founded, as the price tag just keeps going up. |
Herrity is literally the only Republican left in county government, you moron. All he can ever do is dissent, and the Democrats have done everything in his power to marginalize him. Blaming him for FCPS's inability to resolve a zoning issue with other county officials is absurd. |
A land use issue in his district. Nice try to deflect. |
The price tag hasn’t changed beyond the DCUM conspiracy theories. |
Meren's abstained on the most consequential issue for her district that she will ever face. She owed her constituents an up or down vote. |
I strongly disagree. The most consequential vote was hiring Reid. |
Don't lie. FCPS was touting specific savings of roughly $280 million based on a $150 million expenditure, and now they are acknowledging the initial purchase cost more than $150 million and estimating they'll need to spend almost $52 million more on top of that. |
You don't understand how things work. The county executive was hired by Democrats and reports to Democrats. Blaming Herrity for Reid's incompetence is a joke. |

Skyview cost the School System $150 million and the renovations (inside and outside) will easily cost $60 million at the very least! The interior will need work (upgrades/modifications to the Elementary side of the building, band/orchestra add on or build out, add a wrestling room and the build out of the 2 side buildings with 8-10 classrooms in each building) and outside additions (Football/Soccer/Lacrosse/Field Hockey Stadium, Baseball field (most likely turf), Softball field (most likely turf) and tennis courts).
AND BY THE WAY THE NEW HS IN PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY that was ready to be constructed and is now not going to be built was going to cost Prince William County $358 million which DOES NOT include the cost of the land, which was purchased a few years ago for $16 million (obviously it is worth more now!). So regardless of your views Skyview is still a BARGAIN for FCPS and Fairfax County! |
