Does Russia even have the resources and personnel to launch an attack on Poland or one of the Baltic countries right now? Their military has been pretty spent on the war in Ukraine and they can’t even declare victory there yet. I’m no expert but something tells me posters like this one have no basis for this proclamation. Invading Greenland seems to be unpopular with republicans, but would anyone actually step up to stop Trump? Vance and Hegseth seem on board and Rubio is useless. You know he wouldn’t seek congressional approval so would they actually DO anything if he goes ahead with it. This is my worry. |
If this was his first term, I’d agree with you, but there’s no grown-ups in his cabinet this time, and even if sine military leaders refuse he can move onto others to carry it out. He won’t seek approval from congress either because he knows it wouldn’t pass a vote. So republican confreee speaks out in opposition , but then what? |

“BREAKING: During the U.S. national anthem before an NBA game in London, a person in the crowd yelled, “Leave Greenland alone!” and the entire crowd erupted. Donald Trump has destroyed our standing on the world stage.”

| It will be interesting to see how the recent events will affect International tourism to the US. Up until now numbers have been down but didn’t go off a cliff, plenty of people are still visiting. I lurk on the holidays forum on Mumsnet (UK) and there’s is a thread right now about whether people would travel to the US. The answers range from “no way” (for safety or protest reasons) to sure why not, we’re going next month, etc. In other words, some people are mad about the political situation but others are indifferent. |
Actually, State Dept moved Tanzania to a level 3 (from 2) back in October. I’d rethink it… |
Croatia is literally a short boat ride away from Venice. Hardly Eastern Europe. But, I wouldn’t go to Poland in 2026 given the current state of things. |

I’ve posted here a few weeks earlier. I’m back in Latin America. I ran into a tienda last night. An English speaking couple was there, in front of me in line.
“Go ahead of us,” she said. “No no that’s not necessary I’m in no hurry.” “Really it’s fine we can’t decide just step up.” “Ok thank you! Where are you guys from? Can I guess Australia?” “Nope, English but people confuse the accents.” “Well I shouldn’t ha ha I know better I’m just an idiot.” “Where are you from?” “United States. Live in Washington.” “Well . . .” Followed by an awkward smile. “Now wait a minute! I hate Trump and so does everybody I know!” “Ok great thank God, it’s good to know there are still Americans who aren’t idiots! So how long are you here?” That’s the new reality of how one opens a conversation these days as an American traveling abroad. Those of you who haven’t experienced it are either clueless and can’t read other people or you don’t talk to anybody beyond your taxi driver. Or maybe you’re Trump supporters? |
