Don’t forget Capital One Hall! They have Kinky Boots, Tina (musical), and The Music Man. |

Interesting to see if Martha Graham company follows through. Graham turned down a chance for her company to perform at the 1936 Olympic Games.

Thank you for this, I’m going to get tickets for National. |
Ew no, burn them in a bonfire |

We will have to start a thread when it comes out. I won’t go and see it, but others might. |
There’s a thread about it already here https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1275805.page I love that they released it in theaters so there will be reliable numbers on how few people go to see it. |
Bezos doesn’t care how many people see it. He never expected the film to make money the traditional way. The point was to funnel money to the trump family, and they did that. Theatrical release is necessary to qualify for an academy award. They will try to get nominated for the sake of the relationship with Trump. They will call it rigged and pick a fight with the Academy if it isn’t nominated or doesn’t win. It’s all so uninteresting and gross. |
Me too. You know how obsessed Trump is with "ratings." Back to the movie, you'd think Melania was Evita or someone of similar stature worthy of a movie about her life. While they both shared a background that included consorting with wealthy men (including exchanging personal favors for money and more) and they both married a guy who later became leader of his country, Evita was actually loved by many in the working class due to her attention to their plight and her championing of workers' and women's rights. Melania, not so much. |

Washington National Opera is leaving the Kennedy Center. They did not mention Trump but said they were losing money by staying at the Kennedy Center and had a fiduciary duty to move to better, reliable, and profitable venue. The Opera has been at the Kennedy since, well forever.

Good news! The Washington National Opera has found a new venue and donations to the WNO are up! Breaking from WP: Washington National Opera announces new venues after split with Kennedy Center The company has lined up Lisner Auditorium at George Washington University for two upcoming operas, and has also seen a spike in donations since it announced last week that it was leaving the Kennedy Center, which has been transformed under President Donald Trump. |
That's nice. I pray the Kennedy Center will be able to recover after this intentional destruction by the MAGA crowd. I am glad for all the former performers who have been able to secure other venues. The question is will any of them choose to return after DT and his cult is kicked out and the place exorcised. Probably not. The KC's loss has been a gain for most of the local venues who were never given a second look by these performers before. |
The only people who will waste their money on a movie about melania are hard core trumpers. But I suspect the right wing nut jobs and oligarchs will spend millions buying tickets to this crap movie in order to claim it's "selling out" or some such nonsense. Jeff Bezos already is spending $40 million to produce it, so they have to pretend it's a success! I hope the legitimate film reviewers refuse to review it. Fox, Breitbart, all the right wing will praise it of course. The rest of us should just ignore it. |
| Martha Graham Dance company and Doug Varone and the Dancers have pulled out of the Kennedy Center. I mean who will be left to perform at the KC. Yikes. |
