Jobs and Careers
| All I have to say is sorry for our fellow citizens who chose to work for our government the majority of whom are doing a great job. Unfortunately a lot of us in the private sector are haters. We don't have job security, we don't have good benefits, we are treated poorly. So some of us cheer seeing Fed workers suffering. Its frankly pathetic. I have never worked in the public sector, but I can tell you the worst human beings and vermins are in the private sector. |
| So-if they rings, we get our severance (or forced retirement) right? And then in a few months when everything falls apart, they end up rehiring us? So this saves the government what exactly? |
This isn't about saving the government money. It's about pleasing the MAGA Very Online idiots. |
R don’t have the votes. It’s clear who caused this. |
But that's the thing, they never shut down the entire federal government. They still keep the SS checks running, the VA hospitals open, etc. The public doesn't feel the pain because the most public jobs are still getting done. I don't think one SS check should go out during a shutdown. |
Yes, I'm tired of the Ds always having to be the ones who are expected to be the adults in the room. They are the minority party here. And they should keep letting everyone know who is in charge and responsible. |
On September 17, the House voted 216-210 (all “yes” votes were from the Republican caucus, with one Republican voting “present”) to pass the rule for consideration of their version of the continuing resolution. No amendments will be in order. The Republican Leadership describes the CR as a “clean” continuing resolution. The draft continues funding for all twelve bills through November 21 at FY25 levels and FY25 terms and conditions. It does include $30 million for member security and $58 million for executive and judicial branch security. It does nothing to constrain the President’s assertion that he can unilaterally cancel spending. It does not include an extension of Affordable Care Act tax credits for reduced health insurance premiums sought by Democrats. The current credits expire on December 31, 2025. On September 19, the House voted 217-212 to pass the CR. In the Senate, passage will require 60 votes. On September 17, House and Senate Democrats introduced an alternative CR that extends appropriations through October 31, 2025, permanently extends the Affordable Care Act tax credits, repeals the OBBB $1 trillion cuts in Medicaid, extends the availability of appropriations inappropriately withheld by OMB that otherwise lapse on September 30, and blocks the President’s assertion that he can cancel spending without the approval of Congress. Funding is provided at the account level, allowing considerable discretion to the President and OMB to move money around within accounts. The bolded is what you want? To give a blank check to OMB/Trump to move money around wherever their billionaires direct them to including themselves now thanks to Trump and his UAE Emissary who jointly own a cryptocurrency company getting 2 BILLION from UAE as a "backdoor" handshake to giving UAE 500,000 AI Chips. Oh yes the UAE that does joint military exercises with China and oh Trump fired the one expert on the NSC for technology that would have been able to make this a safe deal because Laura Loomer told Trump to- Loopy Lips Loomer- thats who you want to get a blank check to? We all have people to support. But capitulating to this administration bent on destruction of democracy while lining their pockets will get us nowhere. |
| This is the stupidest thing ever. As if Vought would say "oh well, there was no shutdown, guess I can't fire a lot of people after all," assuming that he wants to. |
I agree. Especially because the chances of anyone getting back pay for this shutdown are low. |
I am flabbergasted that you think our elderly and disabled should suffer. This is appalling. |
You do know that among the 1m remaining feds are many disabled workers? And people supporting the disabled and elderly? |
Why should anybody suffer? Why is there this pervasive idea that it’s ok for some people to suffer? This isn’t the mentality of a person in a rich country. We act like we are in a very poor country. |
This is what they voted for ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ |
| It’s not a “shutdown.” It’s a lapse in funding for a small number of federal agencies that aren’t prioritized. |
What are you talking about? It's ALL federal agencies who have not been funded, and the legislative branch has not been funded either. |
