Exactly, one interesting thing to note would be the top players on SY teams would be 8/1-12/31 birthdays. If MLSN stayed BY recruiting from SY teams would be difficult. MLSN would always want to play against 6 month down teams to insure all players were recruitable. 1/1-7/31 players would have to reach out to MLSN coaches themselves to get on their radar or they'd likely get overlooked.

From a competition perspective, the top players and best teams are not worried about BY vs SY. The 1000 page thread talking about this is full of parents of players who will end their soccer career at D3 or high school.

Actually, not really true. It still changes the roster construction for almost every club at every level. Now, maybe they're not "worried", but it's still impactful.

MLSN P2P teams only get a couple of games against MLSN academies a year.

Conflating MLSN academies with MLSN P2P is disengenuous. The academies operate differently and on a few levels above MLSN P2P of course.

But it seems you are drinking the MLSN marketing kool aid and something tells me that you would change your tune if you son got cut from MLSN P2P and you were more open minded.

ECNL clubs play MLSN P2P clubs several times a year through friendlies and tourneys. They also play the academies in friendlies. A good ECNL club will give you all the same opportunies for competition that MLSN would have.

If this is true (I dont think it is) it explains why the boys ECNL parent is posting about SY every 30 seconds in the other thread. If MLSN stays BY they won't participate in SY tournaments and with friendlies they'd likely force the ECNL team to play up. Basically ECNL would get locked out from playing against MLSN teams. (Acadamy and P2P)

MLSN doesn't have open tournaments, clubs do. Clubs that are in multiple leagues that fund much of the club through tournament fees mostly at the younger ages. They will do what can to maximize revenue. Tournaments are a dead cat on the table issue, always brought up like there is some great impediment when there isn't.

Clubs that are SY based will have SY tournaments

If your team is BY grouped they'll need to play teams 6 months older in SY tournaments. If your team is SY grouped they'll need to play teams 6 months older in BY tournaments.

See how it works? This is why the different leagues would just ignore each other.

Clubs aren't league based, they have multiple leagues they are in. And the bulk of leagues declared SY so with over 95 percent of teamscin a club SY even if they have a few top teams in MLSN, tournaments would be SY. The tournament issue is a non issue.

If you are a MLSN club and MLSN stays BY your local tournament will be BY and attended by other BY clubs.

Makes no sense for a club to have a tournament that only 3 or 4 local teams per age will want to play and a clubs secondary teams have to play up. Unless clubs don't like cash.

I guess I would ask why would they do that? It would cause a 75% turnover of the roster which I guess the club does not care about but why? There are also already too many GA teams int his area.

So how would Arlington deciding to give up high level youth soccer, have most of the top players leave, and promote their second team to first team personally help you? Cause for them, that makes no sense.
