Cory Booker Filibuster

I am inspired and so is my teen son who watched part of it with me last night and tonight.

I love what he said after 24 hours on his feet - no food and no bathroom breaks - about beating Strom Thurmond's record for longest senate floor speech. He reminded us that Thurmond was motivated by wanting to filibuster the civil rights act from passing. Booker said he didn't do this just to beat his record. He wasn't sure how long he'd be physically able to keep standing and speaking when he started.

Booker said after the record was broken:

"Thurmond lost and the American people who fought him won. I'm not here because of Thurmond's speech, I'm here despite it."

I got chills. While Booker was speaking, Trump gutted the CDC and FDA. We all need to take a note from CB and act. This matters.

All of this.

And now the person setting the record for longest complaining streak is the new leader of the Democrats. People are excited!

Spartacus has spoken!

Well one of you is a fool. DCUM with vote and get back to you only which one (spoiler alert— it’s not Cory Booker). Bye-bye!

Being voted a fool by the DCUM political crowd is a badge of honor, integrity, and wisdom.
Trust me, they would vote me a fool too.

Corey Booker has me standing just a bit taller and feeling more resolve. Let's go!

So proud of what Cory Booker did today. And to replace the segregationist Storm Thurmond’s record speech in fighting the civil rights act with his speech laying out the case against Donald Trump, Cory Booker will be on the right side of history.

Trump can’t speak eloquently for 12 minutes. Camera, man, woman, TV, Sharks, electrocution, covfefe, Biden, hold my ketchup.

Are you kidding! Trump can't speak or think eloquently for 1 minute.

Whatever Corey Booker was doing, it was working. I feel more motivated and engaged for having watched him speak.

The sad thing is that it’s just talk. Mire of the same. We disapprove of Trump. Everyone already knows that. Dems need to DO something to help working and middle class people. Mandate e-verify. Cut spending. Ban some toxic chemicals. Something. Anything.

Or, he motivated a bunch of Dems to get off their a##es and vote in WI. You never know.

24 hours of substantive speech. Not fluff. No food/bathroom breaks. We need more of this. This is different - and we in times of crisis need something different. Something major. Way to go Corey Booker! Way to set an example.
