This morning I was driving down Wisconsin Av in Chevy Chase and a group (about 10) crossed in front of me heading to the metro. There was only 1 man with this group and the average age was 70, all holding signs.

What a great advertisement for the Democrat party!

So older people who remember what the Holocaust was about and respect women's rights are a proxy for what exactly?

Maybe because:
-privilege of being a man
-went as the group's man/"bodyguard"
-not immigrants
-that group has already gone to college
-the group has already worked the majority of life by now, nothing to fear when protesting.

Letting the world know there are still sane people living here.

Brown people are mostly staying home this time, because protesting under Trump could be deadly for them. White people 40+ are taking up the slack.

Conn Ave .was lined with elderly people holding signs saying hand off my Social Security - obviously that makes sense. Younger folks driving downtown to the bigger protest were honking their support as they passed.

A lot of people are just afraid. I thought the Gaza protests would pick back up after he said he was going to turn it into a resort and started deporting protesters, but I haven’t heard a thing about it. Trump has struck genuine fear in people.

Because women of that age are a lot healthier than the men of that age. The women have more energy. Have you gotten to your 70's yet?

You make a good point, but there's at least some congressional pushback:

Rand Paul, former Trump foe turned ally, speaks out against tariffs

"'Tariffs have... led to political decimation. When (President William) McKinley most famously put tariffs on in 1890, they lost 50% of their seats in the next election,' Paul told reporters a day after Trump's announcement, later adding "So they’re not only bad economically; they’re bad politically.'

....

He has also teamed up with Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., in sponsoring a resolution to end the emergency declaration enabling Trump's tariffs against Canada.

'We should not live under emergency rule,' Paul said in an interview with Fox News reporter Bret Baier. 'The Constitution said taxes are raised by Congress. Most specifically, taxes originate in the House and come to the Senate, so I'm against emergency rule.'

Paul and Kaine's efforts were supported by three other Republicans: Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska."

That's how I felt. I am white, upper middle class, in my 50s, and don't work for the government. I felt that it was my responsibility to protest for all the federal workers or people of color who feel that it is risky for them to do so.

Don't know where you people are getting this "handful of elderly white people" crap from. I was out for several hours today and I've seen people from every race and age and they have been turning out all across America by the hundreds of thousands. My social media feeds are completely flooded with photos and videos from all across the US.

Sorry to disappoint the DCUM gaslighters. "Everyone is staying home" is just not a thing today.

The one I attended had a very successful food drive for local food pantries. The need there is great and will continue to be great if Trump continues to blow up the US department of agriculture aid that was coming into food pantries.

I al not surprised. I knew this was going to happen. There is such a divide in the Democratic Party between white people and POCs. Keeping everything else constant, (education, lifestyle, wealth) I knew the minute all the whites in my alma mater chat group were going to to the march it was not for me.

What they really need to see is voters voting for Democrats. That would scare them straight. But so far they don’t seem worried about it. I heard ine Republican strategist say that protests turn off voters. Bad memories of Democrats supporting BLM riots, lootings, burnings.

This is absolutely correct, but Democrats continue to ignore good advice.

This is absolutely incorrect. Democrats did not support lootings and burnings. They virtually unanimously condemned it. But Republicans continue to ignore good reality and feel they have to resort to smears.

it is not MAGAs burning Teslas. It isn’t even republicans. The arson of Teslas is being done by (say it with me):

- democrats.

I thought that the Teslas were combusting on their own? Well, that and dealers planning insurance claims.

NP. I went to my local protest in California. It was fairly large, but extremely white and the average age had to have been around 60.
