Price gouging as her first policy announcement? Really?

She had not a single word in her speech about controlling prices. That was not her approach to price gouging. Please stop with the fake news.

It’s good to see Republicans still citing lies. https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/11/politics/republican-irs-funding-87000-agents/index.html

And with the increased hires (not 87,000 people) from the Inflation Reduction Act, the IRS has been able to claw back over a billion dollars in tax dollars from millionaires. https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-tops-1-billion-in-past-due-taxes-collected-from-millionaires-compliance-efforts-continue-involving-high-wealth-groups-corporations-partnerships#:~:text=WASHINGTON%2520%E2%80%94%2520As%2520part%2520of%2520continuing,taxpayers%2520with%2520past%252Ddue%2520taxes.

Seems like the Democrats are good stewards while Republicans just want to crap weirdly all over the country. 🤷🏻

A billion dollars wouldn’t even be a drop in the bucket for what Harris socialist economic proposals and housing down payment giveaways would cost taxpayers. She and the Dems would need to raise taxes significantly on the Middle Class. It would suck the life out of the economy. Hosing prices would go up in kind. Price fixing would leave to shortages and even more inflation.

Her proposals raise taxes on the uber wealthy and not at all for anyone 400k or less. What is your definition of middle class?

you would not have to significantly tax the middle class. you just need to erase the tax cuts for billionaires. it's never been right to cap them at the rate they pay. people will justify anything to cowtow to a few excessively wealthy folks.

Of course she wouldn’t say that in her speech (that would be showing her socialist cards) but anyone with half a brain or more (which leaves out most Dems) knows that’s exactly what she is proposing. Please try not to be so gullible.

Do the Math…..erasing the Trump tax cuts which lowered taxes for most Americans and not just billionaires would not even come close to paying for all her free stuff. Standby for much higher taxes on the middle class. Guaranteed it would be required if this madness ever actually became law.

Raising taxes on the “Uber wealthy” would pay for her proposals for about a week. Then what? Is that $400K as a single filer or $800K for a joint couple filing?

Rent control is a Great example of why price fixing doesn’t work. Why would any developer want to build new housing in an area that has rent control? It disincentivizes risk taking and any profit motive and results in very little new housing. Free market should determine rent prices. If rents are high from high demand more developers would build more housing and eventually reach a balance of supply and demand. If they build too much and oversupply, rents will fall.

But price gouging is pervasive across goods and services since Covid / 2020. She’s starting with the most fundamental but this sends a warning shot. The expert prosecutor in action. Hopefully cars and over-the-counter medicines will be next.

Please provide clear and concise evidence of price gouging. The only thing Harris is an expert of is giving idiotic, nonsensical, word salad answers to unscripted questions. That’s why her handlers are keeping her from unscripted press conferences.

Biden/Harris economic policies, green over regulation, money printing, etc have caused prices to go up. It’s not price gouging. It’s awful governance. Let free enterprise and markets do their thing.

Did grocery chains take advantage of COVID shortages to raise prices? FTC says yes.

If you want the free market to reign, then you also have to take away ALL of the subsidies, and also ensure people's actions are properly bought. So for every gallon of gas purchased or mile driven, accounting for the pollution and environmental impact.

Taking away farming subsidies puts a lot more risk into the business. That could mean feast or famine for the food market. Are you prepared to pay the potential famine prices?

Ok, move along from high school Adam Smith to the real world, where your supply-demand curve isn't academic.

Harris wants to strengthen what the FTC can do in these matters

https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/p162318supplychainreport2024.pdf

There is nowhere in her comments or what has been written that suggests price controls.

What do you think?

Y'all have been yapping about how inflation and the economy is the most important issue for you. Well, here you go.

+1. Y’all keep saying inflation in areas where consumers spend money, like food, is one of the most serious issues of this election (as Fox goes on and one about how much more the July 4 picnic costs than last year, and blames Biden). And that “real Americans” care more about food inflation than things like abortion. Are you now saying it’s NBD? Because I’m looking at a landscape where 2-3 giant food companies control a significant amount of our food supply and are making record profits while raising food costs well above inflation. And yes, I think it’s a big issue.

Excellent point.
