Price gouging as her first policy announcement? Really?

OK, I think she just put her first foot wrong. Prices were up 1% on groceries this past year. This is bizarre - brings back memories of ‘70s price controls.

What do you think?

She announced national protection for reproductive rights earlier. The John Lewis Voting Rights Act too.

I’m so grateful that Harris is putting price gouging on the list of priorities. Yes, she’s starting with food. But price gouging is pervasive across goods and services since Covid / 2020. She’s starting with the most fundamental but this sends a warning shot. The expert prosecutor in action. Hopefully cars and over-the-counter medicines will be next.

How will she go about it?

so then you are fine with companies offshoring jobs, right? Because that's capitalism. A government that tells companies what they can and cannot do, including offshoring jobs, is communist, right?

Why are you in favor of price gouging?

Please tell us about this data and where it is.

Tell us what groceries you want price controls on and what you plan to substitute for them if they are sold out because of short supply.

This is not a good move.

That's kind of funny. Outside of wartime controls, the history of price controls in the US consists of two events AFAIK:
Hepburn Act, 1906, sponsored by a Republican
Nixon-era price controls, Nixon's executive order in 1974 freezing wages and prices for 90 days
