Arlington absolutely turns kids away at tryouts, my kid made it on to the lowest arlington travel by the skin of their teeth —got rejected at first and then a spot opened up, maybe a week later.

It’s all a money grab to some degree for other reasons, but I have to vehemently disagree. I laughed a little too hard at this because it's unfortunately true. Some rec coaches are actually better than u-little travel coaches as well.

Nonsense. He came up with a whole plan to create a separate organization to keep travel profits separate from the original rec leagues they were associated with, designated himself in charge, and pays himself a large salary. (They don't even get their own permits, they use CYA fields which means fewer fields for the CYA rec teams.) He cares about cash money ducats and nothing else. If he truly cared about the game and the player, he would let exceptional poor kids play for free (Valor has very stingy financial aid). They would send weak players back to the rec leagues instead of taking their money and be honest with parents.

THIS. U9 boys team has a gold, white, black, silver and blue. We have watched some of these games in passing and they are painful. And it isnt the kids fault. these are rec league players paying travel dues just because. If he was in it for the players these teams wouldnt exist.

Yes they do. US soccer is pay to play. If they can find a coach and field enough players. However, You do see development across several teams in an age group at other clubs. Most valor gold teams wouldn't make 2nd or 3rd team at other clubs. There just isn't any development. Only 2 coaches are exceptional there.

Honestly, I'd make your statements for anyone who wrote in here the statement that bottom teams would destroy the top rec teams. All-star tournaments are about recruitment for a reason and most bottom teams are rec kids suckered into travel + 1 (if you're lucky 2) good players who for whatever reason couldn't make a higher team.

My condolences that your child is in rec travel this year and you paid thousands for it.

Many rec teams have a handful of really good players. Most 4th-5th tier travel teams have zero really good players.

Most rec coaches are just glorified babysitters that are trying to make sure his DC has friends to play with. There are some decent rec players but they can’t hold a candle to any mid level travel player. And I guarantee any rec player whose dad is coaching is not even average.

This is a broad assertion. There are a lot of talented players in the area who can't afford club soccer.
The point was actually being made comparing good rec players to players on low level travel teams. Usually, the best rec players on a team are better players than the average player on a 4th, 5th (maybe 3rd) level team.
