Wow. Princeton Review lists it as #4 most segregated campus in 2019. #13 in 2023.

What do you expect? It is the former Capital of the Confederacy.

Is the school trying to do anything about this? I hope so.

State flagship.
Easy call.

Only if that flagship is UCLA, Michigan, UVA, UNC, or possibly UF. Richmond clears the rest, and with merit, it's a no brainer.

Let’s be real. No one is picking UR over any one of those schools. However, if you are getting a huge scholarship, and the costs are the same, I’d like the kid pick between UR and a UMD or Penn State based on fit. I would be okay with choosing UR if the cost is the same.

Are they really even drawing from the same pool of applicants? UR is a private SLAC and those are very large publics.

Now do the other colleges in Richmond, idiot. Do you think there is "segregation" at VCU? Of course there isn't. And thus obviously whatever is happening at U Richmond is not the product of some nefarious policy left over from 1861.

While it might be a difficult admit, there are far better colleges out there in Virginia.

No - state flagships and UR not drawing from same kids.
UR bringing in prep schools from the northeast. New Jersey. Philly. Connecticut. That's their market.
Kids with average grades who can't get into better school but have money and want to drink and party.

Umm … maybe do something to foster some race and class interaction? Segregation is so 1860s.

Not sure why all the hate on here. We have a child there and it has been fantastic. 23% acceptance rate. We know quite a few kids that got into UVA and did not get into UR. They are looking for smart leaders that mkae a difference in theor community. The Class of 2028 profile is 16,152 applicants/3,585 admitted. 3/4 of kids took the most demanding rigor their high school offered, 12% Virginians, 28% Mid-atlantic, 17% New England, 20% south. 54% from public high schools, 33% students of color/international, 10% first generation, 69% on financial aid. The school has really come up in the rankings from the 80s and 90s. Frats have become off-campus and small % of people after a student-led campaign pre-pandemic to abolish them. Ranked 22th liberal arts school in country by US News, 3rd best run college by Princeton Review. The hatred on this forum is bizarre. It may not be the cup of tea of everyone but its a great school with diversity, nice kids, great professors, and a huge endowment that allows a lot of "extras" for kids that seek them.

UR has a much better student-faculty ratio, class size, and endowment per student than any of those schools.

Oh they’re not attacking the actual UR, which they know nothing about. They’re demonstrating their great virtue by attacking an imaginary UR that is a bastion of wealth, racism, and white privilege. 🙄
