That's a "personal services" contract. Ethics anyone?

It's a three-month temporary position.

Seems by the book and completely above board. I just don't get how these posters always see everything as some conspiracy.
Are you saying MCPS is known for their transparency, truthfulness, and clear communication? Come on man.

They do an excellent job on these things. I find the communication is greater than what is necessary. Sure, there are some cranks who post here that will never be happy with anything they do so not like I'd take them too seriously.

Agree and this is obviously fine but some of the posters here have an axe to grind and will never be happy with anything.

OK, so she's a part-time temp. No board approval necessary.

Unless she gets over $25k in a year.

No. Temp appointments aren't voted on by the board.

Unless she gets over $25,000 a year.

The board never votes on temporary or acting appointments.

They do when payments are over $25,000.

Nope. They don't.

It's the law. You can hate it, but it is still the law. Over $25K needs a vote of the BOE.

Source?

The law.

Fact: MCPS has hundreds of TPT staff who make over $25K per year. Most of them are in schools. The BOE is NOT approving all of those people. They never have.

They approve all those positions. They always do. It is what is called the budget.

Nancy Navarro’s “position” is brand new and was not in the budget. The BOE has to approve the expenditure.

unless it's below 25k then there's no need

It is still a new position and it has to be approved by the BOE.

By your failed analysis, McKnight could add 1,000 paraeducators tomorrow without telling the BOE and without their approval. That never happens because if the positions have not already been funded in the budget, McKnight can't hire.

It is a part-time, three-month temp position. This thread is bonkers.

This thread is probably what caused her salary info to be released. It's not like MCPS is transparent with these kinds of things.

A reporter filed a MPIA.

McKnight had no intention of releasing this information.

Transparency is required by law, regardless of your opinion that it's greater than necessary.

As far as MCPS' willingness to be transparent, check the average time it takes for MCPS to conduct relatively simple MPIA requests (that should normally take only a few hours to do). Foot-dragging time-sensitive requests, charge-back for a simple request, "misunderstandings" of requests, misleading or unresponsive replies are what I'm most familiar with.

Do you think filling MPIA request is some one’s full time job?

It is. And they do not get many requests.

Several of these posters are so disgruntled that they always see conspiracies and things to complain about.

Yes yes. MCPS has no problems whatsoever and is totally transparent.

We don't need another way over paid nonteacher to sit behind a desk. We need her but in a classroom on the front lines.

Many people seem to think these posts are by a failed board of education candidate who has an ax to grind.

MCPS problems are overhyped by the tinfoil hat brigade.
