Oh come on, the schools focus on education--this is the vast majority of what they do. How exactly are they "dumbing down" education? I haven't seen it. I think they are focusing on equity and excellence. I've had 1 kid go through FCPS and 2 still in it and they all have received/are receiving solid educations. The eldest is succeeding at UVA now--well-prepared. And we didn't do any supplementing except for private music lessons and outdoorsy summer camps. There are nationwide teacher shortages and FCPS is handling staffing better than most districts. I honestly don't understand all the griping.

No homework

the parent with the money pay for classes that have the homeworks. this meaning the child get reinforcement of the materials.

thus inequity

What is this magical "no homework" you speak of? Because that is 10000000% not our experience. For a fleeting 18 mos. period during Covid there was minimal -not "no"- homework. But my kid had some HW in ES, and has a TON in HS.

All HS homework is optional

LOL. OK. If my kid doesn't do it, it's not graded and affects her class grade. I see the progress reports every week and on SIS. That's optional in your view?

Maybe in the Angry Anonymous High School in your mind, it's optional. In real FCPS schools, it's not.

Homework is optional or non-existent in many elementary and middle schools as well as many high school courses. This is not up for debate.

As long as there are rich and poor people there will always be inequity, not just in education, in everything. It’s not FCPS’s job to fix a societal problem.

Any parent can access the hundreds of FREE websites, if the want to give their kid homework.

And BTW- SCIENCE did prove that kids should and could safely be in schools (masked) during the point of closures exceeding 9 months. The long term impact has certainly spoken for itself. As such, you are allowed your opinion. I will however end this note and not bash you or call you names as you did to me.

NP. I"m not interested in some suburban mom's understanding of "the science." So sit down. Your opinion is no more valid than anyone else's just b/c you read a google article.[

Do you teach your children to speak this way to strangers too? If you care to continue these hateful responses to others (who are allowed to voice their opinions too), please keep those thoughts in your head.

This is (like so much in FCoS) school dependent. At DCs HS, homework is marked “not for grading” in SIS, if it’s even graded at all. In any case, it does not count toward the course grade. So it may not be optional for your kid, but it is for mine.

Several person aready say on this posting that their child do not have the homeworks.

It seems very stupid idea, because then the children just want to do the roblox.

But if the school carfe about equity, it would give everyone homework, as the pressure to do it will cause some to do it.

i find it very funny because back home we give the homework, and our nation scores outshine USA score, but somehow not giving homework leads to better educational outcomes

sounds like political science

FCPS will now circle the drain.

Looking for a decent private school is now the only option for local families.

And just watch property values plummet over the next decade.

Thanks, voters.

Not if they can't afford at-home internet access. Believe it or not, there are still people for whom this is the case.

And stuff like this is why FCPS doesn't give homework. They don't have internet. They have to work in the evening. On and on. Rather than trying to fix these situations and having the correct goal and method to grow academically in mind, they just pretend that kids can learn the same without homework and don't actually help these families get internet or get through school with an extra year or whatever is needed to pay the bills and actually learn.

Wow aren’t you stupid

Put you kids in a crap religious private and send them to Liberty University where STDs rain free. Their job prospects I’m sure will be amazing while the kids that stayed in fcps will go on and be intelligent humans.

Clearly you are not educated and racist and stand with Nazi lovers and groomers have at it

A mom in Baltimore complained that her child was graduating high school and couldn't even read a number such as 153,798. Couldn't even read one hundred fifty-three thousand, seven hundred ninety-eight. Why go to school if you are going to make accommodations for everyone not doing school? Why not just give this child a job and let them learn on the job? What of the other children that have the time to learn?

I bought a few years ago at the beginning of this School Board's term and the value of my condo (based on neighborhood comps of units with my exact same floor plan and specs) has increased by about 32% in that time period. My precinct voted overwhelmingly for the Democrat in both elections.

Maybe you're just wrong and don't understand what the real world is like outside of your bubble.

Maybe you don't understand that the government is taking away citizen's money with increased taxes and giving jobs to people here and it has nothing to do with the schools and everything to do with jobs available
